Carson City-based Advocates to End Domestic Violence will host a virtual version of its annual Light after Dark 5K/10K Walk, Run, Hike, Bike and Beyond awareness fitness event and fundraiser this Saturday, Oct. 17.

Each October, Nevadans turn their attention to the state capitol, Carson City, home of the “official” Nevada Day Parade. Since 1938, the Nevada Day Parade in Carson City has been an annual coming together to celebrate Nevada’s heritage and the founding of this great state on October 31, 1864.

Updates and changes to school zones have arrived in the Carson City area.

School zones for Bordewich Bray, Carson Middle, Carson High, Eagle Valley, Empire, Fremont, Fritsch, Mark Twain, Pioneer High and Seeliger have been extended from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. The installation of new signs and updated times is expected to be completed by the second week of October, 2020.

A 23-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday in the 1300 block of North Edmonds for felony suspicion of discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling, and misdemeanor possession of a firearm while under the influence.

The first wine walk since the COVID-19 shutdown took place today in Downtown Carson City, bringing 327 patrons to the popular warm-weather event.

Patrons had their temperature checks upon check in, and masks were required while inside businesses.

According to event hosts, no one had been turned away for a high temperature or cold-like symptoms, but some had been turned away for not purchasing tickets ahead of time, as required.

Virginia City will be filled with spooky events over the month of October with its signature Hauntober event. The Nevada Guard is set to host its ninth annual memorial run/walk on Sunday, Sept. 6, to commemorate the victims of the International House of Pancakes shooting that occurred in 2011. The run/walk will start at what used to be the Carson City IHOP, 3883 S. Carson St., at 7 a.m. Sunday.

A 32-year-old woman was arrested Wednesday for suspicion of third degree arson after allegedly setting fires in a field near the I-580 off ramp and William Street.

CARSON CITY — Monday at approximately 4:20 p.m., Carson Tahoe Health wheeled its first COVID-positive, intubated patient, Linda McCain, out of the Regional Medical Center and back home to her family.

A 31-year-old man was arrested Tuesday for suspicion of second degree kidnapping, possession of drugs and other offenses, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office report.
