Carson City's Order of The Eastern Star helps local charities for the holidays

Esther Chapter No. 3 of Carson City and the Grand Chapter of Nevada's Order of The Eastern Star recently made donations to several charities, including Food for Thought and the Veterans Guest House.

Going into Monday, Nov. 11, 2019 it is Veterans Day. Federal, state and local government offices and schools are closed to observe the holiday. Thank you U.S. Veterans for your service to our great country. There are a number of organized happenings in the region, including parades in Virginia City and Reno, as well as events in South Lake Tahoe and Sparks. Plus a number of Carson City and Carson Valley restaurants are offering no cost meals as a gesture of gratitude to veterans and active duty military members. Also Monday is a discussion on homeless issues with local advocate and champion for those who are often without a voice, Dee Dee Foremaster.

Gov. Brian Sandoval and the Nevada Department of Veterans Services are pleased to announce Reno's Veterans Guest House is this month's "Veteran Supporter of the Month." The award and recognition were given to the non-profit at a ceremony Tuesday at the Governor's Mansion in Carson City.

Carson senior goes extreme with coupons; collects items for local veterans

A senior project for a Carson City high school student that involved "extreme couponing" for two months netted more than $1,100 worth of goods that he donated to area veterans.

Dallas Burnett, a Carson High School senior, managed to find, clip, cut, and ultimately save $818.56 in grocery and household items that he donated to the Veterans Guest House in Reno.
