Events around the Carson City region for Veterans Day, Monday, Nov. 11

Going into Monday, Nov. 11, 2019 it is Veterans Day. Federal, state and local government offices and schools are closed to observe the holiday. Thank you U.S. Veterans for your service to our great country. There are a number of organized happenings in the region, including parades in Virginia City and Reno, as well as events in South Lake Tahoe and Sparks. Plus a number of Carson City and Carson Valley restaurants are offering no cost meals as a gesture of gratitude to veterans and active duty military members. Also Monday is a discussion on homeless issues with local advocate and champion for those who are often without a voice, Dee Dee Foremaster.

Although Veterans Day was observed yesterday, there are several things today that honor our former members of the military. Battle Born Harley Davidson is throwing an appreciation party complete with food trucks. Virginia City’s annual Veterans Day Parade begins at 11 a.m. and the City of Reno will commence their parade after a short ceremony beginning at 11:11 a.m. You’ll find an abundance of craft fairs in Carson City, Carson Valley, and Dayton. Nevada Department of Veterans Services Director Kat Miller selected Grand Marshal for City of Reno Veterans Day Parade

The Nevada Department of Veterans Services is pleased to announce Director Kat Miller has been selected to serve as Grand Marshal in the 2017 City of Reno Veterans Day Parade. Brigadier General Zachary Doser has been chosen to serve as Deputy Grand Marshal in the November 11th event honoring veterans and those currently serving in the U.S. Armed Forces.

At the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, Virginia City holds its annual Veterans Day Parade to honor those who have served and currently serve our country. This year’s Grand Marshal was Price Gerald Ross, a Virginia City local and Navy veteran ranked DC1 with 20 years of service, 1942-1962.

A well-traveled, 72-year-old World War II veteran is set to make a triumphant return Tuesday at the annual Veterans Day parade in Reno. A remodeled 1942 Dodge WC-54 3/4-Ton Army Ambulance, owned by the Department of Veterans Affairs and refurbished by the Nevada Army Guard, is set to make its first public appearance in years at the parade that begins at 11 a.m. on Virginia Street.

Gov. Sandoval to Join Korean War Veteran in Virginia City Parade

Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval will join Grand Marshall Ed Hooks in leading the Virginia City Veterans Day Parade at 11 a.m. today.
Sandoval and Hooks will be among the many entries, usually more than 50, depending on the weather, that will take part in the parade. Several marching bands, including the Carson Middle School band and one from Fernley will perform in the parade.
