The Retired Senior Volunteer Program, Inc. (RSVP) is hosting a free pancake breakfast for all veterans on Veteran’s Day, Thursday, November 11, 2021.

This event will take place at the Carson City Elks Lodge on 515 N. Nevada Street, Carson City, from 9 to 11:00 a.m. All local senior veterans are invited to join RSVP for pancakes, sausages, and beverages. Celebrity chefs Charlie Abowd, Carson City Supervisor Stan Jones, and Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong will be serving pancakes.

On Veteran's Day, Monday, November 11th 2019 Charles Jay Anderson III (SGT US Army RET), Our loving father passed away too early at the age of 67.

As Veteran's Day appears, we should all thank those who have and are currently serving our country. Our military has kept our nation as safe as possible and have put their lives in danger for us and our posterity.

Every day that passes is a day that we should celebrate for a safer and more welcoming time. Show respect for our veterans and for those who are currently serving.

Going into Monday, Nov. 11, 2019 it is Veterans Day. Federal, state and local government offices and schools are closed to observe the holiday. Thank you U.S. Veterans for your service to our great country. There are a number of organized happenings in the region, including parades in Virginia City and Reno, as well as events in South Lake Tahoe and Sparks. Plus a number of Carson City and Carson Valley restaurants are offering no cost meals as a gesture of gratitude to veterans and active duty military members. Also Monday is a discussion on homeless issues with local advocate and champion for those who are often without a voice, Dee Dee Foremaster.

Happy Sunday, Carson City! But it's not the end of the weekend yet, at least not for some, thanks to Veteran's Day Weekend. Here are the events left for the rest of the weekend!

Honoring those who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces, Veteran's Day is Monday, Nov. 11 with a number of events happening around the capital city and Northern Nevada which began this week and will continue through Tuesday.

Heading into the Veterans Day weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next four days. Events include live comedy, art and heater, multiple holiday craft fairs around Carson City and Carson Valley as well as several Veterans Day ceremonies and offers of gratitude to vets and active duty members of the U.S. military on Monday. We honor those who have served our country today on this Veterans Day, Monday, Nov. 12, 2018. Take a moment to thank those who have given in service and sacrifice to our great country, and remember those veterans who are no longer with us. Around Carson City and throughout Northern Nevada, federal, state and local government offices are closed.

Today is Armistice Day, Nov. 11, precursor to the modern Veterans Day holiday, which is observed on Monday.

On this date 100 years ago, armistice was signed ending World War I in Europe.

A busy week is deserving of time off and for many the weekend is extended as Monday is Veteran's Day with federal, state and local governments, as well as city schools closed so we can pay tribute to America's finest men and women who have served or are currently serving in our Armed Forces.

Welcome to the last day of the work week, Carson City. Today is Friday, Nov. 9, 2018. Another day of sunny skies and seasonal temperatures. On tap is a morning walk hosted by Muscle Powered, a memorial dedication ceremony on the capitol grounds and a pickle ball tournament at the MAC. Renowned Artist Terese Nielsen will do a signing at The Hydra's Lair and our own Western Nevada Musical Theatre presents the start of the second week of "Mamma Mia!"

From free concerts, to pet adoptions, to a new memorial, here are the list of events for 2018's Veterans Day.

Wendy Simons, Deputy Director of Wellness at the Nevada Department of Veterans Services, will be the featured speaker at the Carson Democrats' Veteran's Day luncheon. The program will include a photographic preview of the soon-to-open Northern Nevada State Veterans Home.

The Carson City Council of the Navy League of the United States will honor Veterans, past and present, at our November Meeting. We will also pay tribute to our MIA’s and POW’s and celebrate both the Navy and Marine Corps birthdays. Our speaker for the Special Veteran’s Day celebration will be Captain Robert Wiley, Retired, who was the first Master of the USNS Carson City, T-EPF 7.

Although Veterans Day was observed yesterday, there are several things today that honor our former members of the military. Battle Born Harley Davidson is throwing an appreciation party complete with food trucks. Virginia City’s annual Veterans Day Parade begins at 11 a.m. and the City of Reno will commence their parade after a short ceremony beginning at 11:11 a.m. You’ll find an abundance of craft fairs in Carson City, Carson Valley, and Dayton. Every year for Veterans Day, several local and national businesses go out of their way to say thank you to the men and women who have served, and are actively serving in our armed forces. Below, you’ll find a list of our local companies that have something special for our active and retired military members. Be prepared to provide proof of service in order to take advantage.

October is behind us and this November weekend kicks off the holiday season with craft fairs, art shows, and plenty of fun. Get a jump on those New Year’s resolutions by participating in the first of the ‘Be Bold, Run in the Cold’ 5 or 10K runs that Ascent Runs is sponsoring. Today is Veterans’ Day: a day to commemorate the men and women of the Armed Forces that have fought, and possibly died, for our country. Thank you for your service. Several places around town are offering something special for our Veterans today: free coffee, free breakfast, free lunch, etc. You’ll need to bring proof of service. Tonight, everyone is invited to the party. Check out the Junebugs at Living the Good Life. The Portland pop-folk band returns for a night of fun and dancing.

Buy a Veteran a Dinner for Veteran's Day - Geeks Giving Back is hosting a fundraiser to Buy a Veteran a dinner for Veterans Day this Wednesday, Nov. 11 at 6:30pm at the Brewery Arts Center Grand Ballroom featuring a Fried Chicken Buffet donated by Sassafras. Your $50 ticket buys you and a veteran dinner. Call the BAC for more information: 775-883-1976.

The staff of Carson High School and Douglas High School have agreed to a rivalry basketball game to be played Nov. 19 at DHS. The staff basketball game is a fundraiser for the Peace Officer’s Memorial Fund.
Multiple members of each of the school’s staff will be on hand to battle it out on the basketball court and continue the rivalry, but for a good cause. Come support the Senators or the Tigers and be sure to wear your favorite school’s colors.

Surrounded by small flags, empty gun shells, pioneer headstones and a poignant hand written card from an old girlfriend, where she wrote to him "it had been over forty years, I finally found you" is the grave marker of a Carson City Vietnam veteran, Sgt. Daniel Ackerman, who died in combat.

His body is buried at the old pioneer Empire Cemetery. His marker is in the southwest corner, high above the Carson River where Danny Ackerman loved to hunt, fish and hike around with his friends.

Sgt. Daniel Leverne Ackerman was from Carson City, Nev. He served in Vietnam, where he made the ultimate sacrifice in combat service to the United States of America a few weeks after his 21st birthday.

Sgt. Ackerman was born on March 13, 1947, and was killed in action on April 10, 1968. On the Vietnam Memorial Wall his name is located at Panel 49E, Line 7. Sgt. Ackerman was buried at Empire Cemetery, which is just east of Carson City.

"The Next Best Thing to The King" took the showroom of the Carson Nugget on Saturday night to a sold-out performance. Donny Edwards, known worldwide as one of the most authentic Elvis impressionists to take the stage, performed for 2.5 hours in front of Carson City Elvis fans. Active duty and military veterans were admitted to the show free as part of an extended Veteran's Day tribute by the Carson Nugget.

5:30PM- 8:30PM, Wednesday, Novemeber 14,2012 at Gold Dust West Hotel and Casino, 2171 Hwy 50 East, Carson City. The social hour is at 5:30PM, followed by a buffet dinner at 6:30PM. We will be celebrating Veteran's Day and honoring Veteran's from all Services. Also, we will honor Pearl Harbor Survivors. Speaker for the evening will be Rear Admidral Mark Vance, Commander, Naval Stride and Air Warfare Center (Top Gun).

The Carson Valley Inn is serving a Free Spaghetti Lunch for all Veterans and Active Military – plus one guest – on Veteran's Day, Sunday, November 11. The event will be held in the Valley Ballroom from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Veterans and active military personnel simply present your military ID for entrance, and lunch for you and your guest is on the Carson Valley Inn! There will be a Veteran's Day colors presentation, the National Anthem and an invocation at 11 a.m.

The Carson Valley Inn is serving a Free Spaghetti Lunch for all Veterans and Active Military – plus one guest – on Veteran's Day, Friday, November 11. The event will be held in the Valley Ballroom from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
