Veteran's pancake breakfast happening Veteran's Day at Carson City Elks Lodge No. 2177

The Retired Senior Volunteer Program, Inc. (RSVP) is hosting a free pancake breakfast for all veterans on Veteran’s Day, Thursday, November 11, 2021.

This event will take place at the Carson City Elks Lodge on 515 N. Nevada Street, Carson City, from 9 to 11:00 a.m. All local senior veterans are invited to join RSVP for pancakes, sausages, and beverages. Celebrity chefs Charlie Abowd, Carson City Supervisor Stan Jones, and Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong will be serving pancakes.

Going into Monday, Nov. 11, 2019 it is Veterans Day. Federal, state and local government offices and schools are closed to observe the holiday. Thank you U.S. Veterans for your service to our great country. There are a number of organized happenings in the region, including parades in Virginia City and Reno, as well as events in South Lake Tahoe and Sparks. Plus a number of Carson City and Carson Valley restaurants are offering no cost meals as a gesture of gratitude to veterans and active duty military members. Battle Born Harley Davidson is throwing an appreciation party complete with food trucks. Today is Veterans’ Day: a day to commemorate the men and women of the Armed Forces that have fought, and possibly died, for our country. Thank you for your service. Several places around town are offering something special for our Veterans today: free coffee, free breakfast, free lunch, etc. You’ll need to bring proof of service. Buy a Veteran a Dinner for Veteran's Day - Geeks Giving Back is hosting a fundraiser to Buy a Veteran a dinner for Veterans Day this Wednesday, Nov. 11 at 6:30pm at the Brewery Arts Center Grand Ballroom featuring a Fried Chicken Buffet donated by Sassafras. Senator Square: Rivalry between Carson and Douglas spreads to school staffs

The staff of Carson High School and Douglas High School have agreed to a rivalry basketball game to be played Nov. 19 at DHS. The staff basketball game is a fundraiser for the Peace Officer’s Memorial Fund.
Multiple members of each of the school’s staff will be on hand to battle it out on the basketball court and continue the rivalry, but for a good cause. Come support the Senators or the Tigers and be sure to wear your favorite school’s colors.

John Warne Remembers Sgt. Daniel 'Danny' Ackerman

Surrounded by small flags, empty gun shells, pioneer headstones and a poignant hand written card from an old girlfriend, where she wrote to him "it had been over forty years, I finally found you" is the grave marker of a Carson City Vietnam veteran, Sgt. Daniel Ackerman, who died in combat.

His body is buried at the old pioneer Empire Cemetery. His marker is in the southwest corner, high above the Carson River where Danny Ackerman loved to hunt, fish and hike around with his friends.

Sgt. Daniel Leverne Ackerman was from Carson City, Nev. He served in Vietnam, where he made the ultimate sacrifice in combat service to the United States of America a few weeks after his 21st birthday.

Sgt. Ackerman was born on March 13, 1947, and was killed in action on April 10, 1968. On the Vietnam Memorial Wall his name is located at Panel 49E, Line 7. Sgt. Ackerman was buried at Empire Cemetery, which is just east of Carson City.

'The Next Best Thing to the King' shakes up Carson Nugget stage

"The Next Best Thing to The King" took the showroom of the Carson Nugget on Saturday night to a sold-out performance. Donny Edwards, known worldwide as one of the most authentic Elvis impressionists to take the stage, performed for 2.5 hours in front of Carson City Elvis fans. Active duty and military veterans were admitted to the show free as part of an extended Veteran's Day tribute by the Carson Nugget.

5:30PM- 8:30PM, Wednesday, Novemeber 14,2012 at Gold Dust West Hotel and Casino, 2171 Hwy 50 East, Carson City. The social hour is at 5:30PM, followed by a buffet dinner at 6:30PM. We will be celebrating Veteran's Day and honoring Veteran's from all Services. Also, we will honor Pearl Harbor Survivors. Speaker for the evening will be Rear Admidral Mark Vance, Commander, Naval Stride and Air Warfare Center (Top Gun).

Free Spaghetti Lunch for Veterans and Military at Carson Valley Inn

The Carson Valley Inn is serving a Free Spaghetti Lunch for all Veterans and Active Military – plus one guest – on Veteran's Day, Sunday, November 11. The event will be held in the Valley Ballroom from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Veterans and active military personnel simply present your military ID for entrance, and lunch for you and your guest is on the Carson Valley Inn! There will be a Veteran's Day colors presentation, the National Anthem and an invocation at 11 a.m.
