Hindu mantras by statesman Rajan Zed open Friday's Nevada Senate and Assembly
Submitted by editor on Sat, 04/18/2015 - 1:03pmBoth Nevada Senate and Assembly in Carson City opened with Hindu invocations on Friday that were presented with verses from the world’s oldest existing scripture.
Hindu statesman Rajan Zed delivered the opening prayers from ancient Sanskrit scriptures before both houses of the Nevada Legislature. After Sanskrit delivery, Zed spoke and read the English translation of the prayers. Sanskrit is considered a sacred language in Hinduism and root language of Indo-European languages.

The historic mining town plays host to more than 30 professional chili cooks and hundreds of revelers participating in the Crawl Back In Time Fireball Saloon Crawl, a sampling of themed beverages from 15 locations. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Jennifer Newmark named NDOW wildlife diversity division administrator

The position oversees the division responsible for Nevada’s diverse wildlife heritage through the protection, management and restoration of non-game species.
Newmark has almost 16 years of experience in increasingly responsible roles working with Nevada’s wildlife. In her most recent position, Jennifer served as the Administrator of the Nevada Natural Heritage Program, an independent state agency within the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.

On this day in 1982, a ground-breaking ceremony was held in Washington D.C. for the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. Carson City has a Vietnam Veterans Memorial of its own located in Mills Park. The memorial will be the site of a Welcome Home Celebration this Saturday for Vietnam Veterans Day.

Teen hit at Carson City crosswalk recovering at Reno hospital, crash under investigation

The accident is under investigation and alcohol may be a factor, a Nevada Highway Patrol trooper said Sunday.

Alleged victim of Bill Cosby and Attorney Gloria Allred to go before Nevada Legislature
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Thu, 03/12/2015 - 1:22pmA woman who has alleged she was sexually assaulted by entertainer Bill Cosby and her attorney, Gloria Allred, will go before the Nevada Legislature in Carson City on Friday in support of a bill that would eliminate the criminal statute of limitations for rape in Nevada.
The alleged victim will urge the law be changed because under current Nevada law it is too late for Cosby to be criminally prosecuted for what she alleges he did to her, according to a news release from Allred's office.

CHS concert band plays alongside USAF musicians during sold out Carson City performance

Yet several CHS band and Chamber Choir students played and sang along with the USAF Concert Band and Singing Sergeants during a sold out show at the Bob Boldrick Theater inside the Carson City Community Center on Wednesday night.
