2015 Amgen Tour of California to host first two pro women's cycling stages at South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by editor on Mon, 10/20/2014 - 2:57pmTo observe the 10th anniversary edition of the Amgen Tour of California, organizers of the race announced Monday that the first two stages of the expanded women’s portion of the race would be hosted by Tahoe South, “America’s Best Lake,” (USA Today, Aug. 2012) May 8-9, 2015. The competition will continue in Sacramento, May 10, 2015, with a third racing stage, the same day as the overall men’s start of the Amgen Tour of California.
Ellis sets Dayton Valley Q-school scoring record in Web.com Tour tourney
Submitted by editor on Sat, 10/18/2014 - 8:43amJohn Ellis of San Jose, Calif. held the lead for all four rounds and set a new 72-hole scoring record in the Stage One Web.com Tour Qualifying tournament at Dayton Valley Golf Club. Ellis fired a final round 6-under par 66 for a 26-under total of 262 that betters the old record by 4 strokes and was 7 shots better than the next lowest total on the day.

Ellis remains atop leaderboard after second round in Web.com Qualifier at Dayton Valley
Submitted by editor on Thu, 10/16/2014 - 7:00pmJohn Ellis of San Jose, Calif. fired a 6-under par 66 to take sole possession of the 36-hole lead at 13-under par 131 in the Web.com Tour Qualifying Tournament at Dayton Valley Golf Club. Canadians Darren Wallace and Cory Renfrew, who played in the same threesome, are two shots back at 11-under 133 after carding 66 and 67 respectively.
Sean Einhaus of Germany and Erick Justesen of San Jose, Calif. are tied for fourth at 10-under 134. First round co-leader Dusty Fielding shot 1-under 71 and is sixth at 8-under 136.

Those ladies were: Mary Bottoms, Laurie Harig, Patti Isaman, Mary Morris, Elaine Quilici and Kathi Quilici, all of Carson City, plus Emily Bradburn and Carolyn Harton of Dayton. For three of them, it was their first tour-bus visit to Apple Hill.
And if you are a newcomer to our area or if you have never been there, fall is a great time of the year to visit Apple Hill like they did.
If you are a newcomer, about now you are probably wondering, “What and where in the heck is Apple Hill?”
High winds postpone second round of Web.com Tour Qualifying at Dayton Valley
Submitted by editor on Wed, 10/15/2014 - 2:00pmGusty high winds forced PGA Tour officials to postpone Wednesday’s scheduled second round of the Web.com Tour Qualifying tournament at Dayton Valley Golf Club. Play will resume at 7:45 a.m. on Thursday off both the first and tenth tees.
Second round play on Wednesday was delayed from a scheduled 9 a.m. start until noon. High winds came up again and officials canceled play for the day at 1:15 p.m. Players who resumed second round play will start their second rounds over when play resumes Thursday.

CCAI will host a reception for the artists on Friday, October 17, from 5 - 7pm. The BRIC is located at 108 E Proctor Street, Carson City. The exhibition and reception are free and the public is cordially invited. The exhibition will remain at the BRIC through September 4, 2015. The BRIC is open to the public Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm.

2014 Lone Mountain Cemetery tour Nevada Day weekend
Submitted by Danielle Cook on Mon, 10/13/2014 - 4:27amCarson City’s popular Nevada Day Lone Mountain Cemetery Tour (aka: "Friends In Low Places") returns this year with historical performances representing some of the cemetery’s most famous residents. Two tours are on Friday, Oct. 31 at 2:30pm and 5:30pm; one tour is on Saturday, Nov. 1 at 6:00pm. The 90 minute tours are limited to 60 people each, so advance purchase is recommended. Tickets currently for sale at the Nevada Day Store and are $20 adult / $10 for kids 6-12 / free for ages 5 and under.

Buckland’s Station Loop

This site was once a Pony Express stop, supply center for early pioneers and nearby Fort Churchill, and a former hotel. Today it’s a quiet old building in a park setting under the cottonwoods along the Carson River. I had a free afternoon recently, and decided to make the station my trailhead for an exploration loop around the mountains.

You will be able to tour our facilities to observe what is done on a daily basis for the highway patrol. You can see our fleet of vehicles and see who maintains our vehicles both inside and out. You will also see our mobile command center and our mobile breath analyzer truck. Refreshments will be served.

Rain or shine, all year long, more than 30 local businesses open their doors for the influx of visitors seeking wine, a nosh, and perhaps something from a quirky boutique. Ten dollars will get you a Carson City logoed wine glass, a raffle ticket, a hand stamp, and a map.

Carson City supervisors recognize 'Always Lost' exhibition on costs of war
Submitted by editor on Thu, 10/02/2014 - 3:45pmCarson City government officials on Thursday recognized Western Nevada College’s nationally known humanities exhibition on the costs of war, “Always Lost: A Meditation on War,” Thursday with a proclamation of appreciation and honor.
Carson City Mayor Robert Crowell, a Vietnam veteran, has called the exhibit “our community’s gift to the nation.”
A proclamation honoring the creators and contributors of “Always Lost” was presented to Western Nevada College President Chester Burton and Professors Emeritus Don Carlson and Marilee Swirczek during the Board of Supervisors meeting.

Major Sports Need Major Overhaul In Domestic Violence Policies

Sierra Nevada Corporation’s Ozmens pledge $5 million for UNR entrepreneurship center

Make friends, learn history at Nevada State Museum tour guide training

Tour guide training begins at the museum Tuesday, Sept. 16 at 9 a.m.
No experience is necessary but volunteers are asked to be available at least four hours per month and bring curiosity and enthusiasm for Nevada’s rich cultural and natural heritage.
