Winterfest is upon us here at Carson High School. The upcoming week will be filled with activites and celebrations for the students and staff at CHS. The theme of Winterfest is WinterFlix, like Netflix. Congratulations to the Winterfest Candidates who have been nominated by their classmates. One prince and princess will be chosen by a class vote for the freshmen, sophomores and juniors. One king and queen will be chosen among the senior class. Royalty court will be announced Thursday.

Their book includes an illustrated walking tour describing more than 30 buildings and sites including the Comstock National Historic District, now designated a National Historic Landmark.

With one week left in USA Today’s competition for best capital city in the nation, the Carson City Visitors Bureau is urging Nevadans to continue to cast their votes.
In the weeks since the contest was announced online, Carson City has bounced between first, second and third places. However, it is now holding steady in the top position.

Eagles & Agriculture, the Carson Valley‘s annual gathering of eagles and celebration of agriculture, is now accepting reservations for the 2015 event.

The Feb. 19-22 event will be the 13th Eagles & Ag, and is a combined effort of the Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce, UNR Cooperative Extension, The Nature Conservancy, Lahonton Audobon Society and Valley ranchers.

The 2015 version sees a few adjustments. For the first time ever, The Ranch & Eagle Tour & Luncheon will be offered on both Saturday and Sunday mornings.

Artisan Showcase at Carson City Chamber now open

When the Carson City Chamber purchased the share of the building previously occupied by the visitors bureau, they found themselves with extra space that once housed the visitor center and gift shop operated by the bureau.

What to do with that extra space was the question. Since that vacant space was always operated as a gift shop, the Chamber decided to operate an artisan shop to showcase local talented artists and provide them with yet another outlet to sell their unique art.

Carson City woman and author of 'Bonners' Fairy' series picked up by publishing house

Scottsdale, Arizona-based book publisher Vigilante Publishing Group is publishing "Bonners’ Fairy," a novel by Carson City area resident Elizabeth Patterson.

The publishing house picked up the book series that had originally been self-published. Patterson, a Carson City Support Services Specialist, has penned a series of six children's fantasy and adventure books based around the mythical land known as Bonners' Fairy.

Carson City Library staff take tour of Reno digital book and music distributor

Staff at the Carson City Library should be able to operate more efficiently and better serve patrons after a series of training sessions this year.

“I would like patrons to come in and feel like they got the help they needed so they return,” said Director Sena Loyd. “The library is a community resource. They’re already paying for it through their tax dollars, so it’s important that they’re able to take advantage of it.”

The training sessions were designated by the library’s board of directors to take place on a Friday — when hours are typically shortened — every other month.

Kaempfer Crowell Law Firm to donate $3,500 to Honor Flight Nevada, Vietnam Tour Project

Nevada law firm Kaempfer Crowell will present a $3,500 donation on Friday to Honor Flight Nevada, a non-profit organization dedicated to transporting veterans to Washington, D.C. to visit memorials honoring their service and sacrifices. The presentation will take place at noon on the steps of the Laxalt Building in Carson City.

Veteran Southern Nevada golf professional Joe Kelly joins Duncan Golf Management

Duncan Golf Management has named Joe Kelly to the position of director of golf operations. Kelly comes to the job with 40 years of experience as a PGA golf professional in southern Nevada along with an impressive list of credentials including being a 2015 inductee into the Southern Nevada Sports Hall of Fame.

Kelly has been with Walters Golf, a division of the Walters Group, in Las Vegas for the past 16 years. He was responsible for golf operations at all Walters owned and operated courses including Bali Hai Golf Club, Desert Pines Golf Course and Royal Links Golf Club.

String Cheese Incident to jam Reno, Las Vegas in 2015 Winter Carnival Tour

Jam band favorites The String Cheese Incident will play the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno on two nights in January and a three night Las Vegas show in February, the band announced Tuesday.
