Annual Carriage Square Neighborhood Garage Sale Day

The Carriage Square Neighborhood, located half a mile west of Carson Street and just south of Winnie Ln., is having its annual garage sale day on Saturday, June 4th, starting at 8am. At least 16 homes are participating this year, and are selling a smorgasbord of items.

Once you're in the neighborhood, just look for the balloons! Each Garage Sale home will have balloons tied to the mailbox so you know exactly where to go.

Local Art Gallery Nominated for Small Business of the Year Award

Carson City, NV–The national small business movement, Independent We Stand, announced the quarterfinalists of the 2015 Independent We Stand Independent Small Business of the Year Award. Nearly 22,000 votes were cast for 315 nominees during the nominations phase. For the second year in a row, Artsy Fartsy Art Gallery has been nominated for this award and made it to the quarter-final stage of voting.

From October 23-26, the Nevada Land Trust is hosting a free benefit art show, "Art of Conservation - Open Spaces and Special Spaces" in the three galleries of the Wilbur May Museum, Rancho San Rafael Regional Park at 1595 N. Sierra St., Reno. The Galleries will be open Thursday 2pm-4pm, Friday-Saturday 10am-4pm, Sunday 12pm-3pm, with a closing reception 12pm-2pm.

Nevada recycling rate reaches historic high, Carson City inches closer to goal

Nevadans are recycling more, according to a report released Wednesday by state environmental officials.
In 2012, the recycling rate was 28.8 percent, surpassing the state's goal of 25 percent, according to the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection. In 2012, Carson City had a recycling rate of 24.9 percent.

In 1991 legislation known as AB320 set a goal that at least 25 percent of municipal solid waste would be recycled in counties that have a population of greater than 45,000.

Nevada State Museum Lecture: Early Prehistoric Textiles in the Western Great Basin

Ever wonder what people wore on their feet 13,000 years ago? A fascinating look at early prehistoric textiles in the Western Great Basin will be the theme of a Jan. 24 lecture presented by archaeologist Pat Barker beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Nevada State Museum in Carson City as part of its monthly Our Frances Humphrey Lecture Series.

Barker will discuss prehistoric textiles, showcasing sandals, mats, bags, basketry, and cordage from the collections of the Nevada State Museum. Learn how foot ware can inform us about how people lived in the past.

Behind the Scenes Tour

A behind the scenes tour of the Marjorie Russell Clothing and Textile Resource Center will be held on April 6. The tour will be hosted by Jan Loverin, curator of Clothing and Textiles. The tour last from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at 2351 Arrowhead Drive, Carson City. Limited space so reservations are required. (775) 687-6173, Suggested donation: $10.
