A happy Fathers’ Day to all of you with kids, and all of you making a difference in a kid’s life. Enjoy some family time at the Carson Hot Springs where fathers are swimming free today. Downtown is still hopping with live music, bicycles, and great food. Everyone races for free at the Carson City BMX Olympic Day, just make sure you’ve got long sleeves and leave the flip-flops at home. The weekend hasn’t even started, and I’m already exhausted just trying to decide what to do first! Live music, races, activities, and much more await you downtown as part of the Carson City Off-Road. Stewart Indian School is awash in bright colors, beadwork, and dancers from all across the country during their annual Fathers’ Day Pow Wow. Congratulations to the Show Tree Brewing Company by the Carson Hot Springs; their big grand opening bash includes multiple bands. Keep reading – this weekend has a whole lot to offer.

Have you ever wished you could clone yourself? If you haven’t, then these next few weekends will make you consider it: there are just too many options to choose from. Whether you prefer indoors, outdoors, adults-only, or family friendly, there is something to enjoy. The Stewart Fathers’ Day Pow Wow and the Carson City Off-Road are the big tickets in town this weekend, complete with some downtown road closures. Take a look at the whole list and you’ll find something that suits your mood perfectly, and is possibly just around the corner.

FRIDAY:

Nevadans celebrated both Flag Day and the U.S. Army’s 242nd birthday Wednesday during a ceremony at the Nevada Veterans Memorial on the state capitol grounds in Carson City.

The Carson City area BMX community has launched its annual Race For Life campaign to help raise money in the fight to find a cure for blood-related cancers. Racers and their families can pick up collection envelopes and begin collecting donations from friends, relatives, neighbors and businesses in the community. Helping others is one of the finest things anyone can ever do in life. Donations raised will go to help fight and bring to an end a dreadful disease that affects thousands of people each year.

Planes, trains, and automobiles take over Carson City this weekend. Steampunk ‘N’ Trains at the Nevada Railroad Museum features train rides, fun costumes, food trucks and more. You’ll find two car shows in town – the Party at the Pavilion as part of the Nevada State Fair and the Carson City Downtown Revival Car Show at the Carson Nugget. The Carson Airport Fly-In and Open House has plenty of aeronautic fun in store. You’ll have to keep reading for all of the fun options in Carson City and the surrounding valleys.

Caltrans reopened U.S. Highway 50 at 9:08 a.m. Friday morning after a mudslide temporarily forced a full closure of the road Thursday. One way traffic control is in effect at Alder Creek between White Hall and Kyburz.

Beware, or you'll suffer from fun stuff overload. The State Fair and Rendezvous continues at Mills Park, and now you can head into the Pavilion and get your car or bike registered for the Show and Shine. Shiny cars are also welcome at the Carson Cruise - Meet and Greet's Summer Cruise Night: start out at Bully's Sports Bar and you'll convoy down to McFadden Plaza for the Fridays at the Fox Concert Series Kick-off. Shane Dwight takes the stage to get weekend off to a great start.

Reno Police Department has released the name of the victim who died in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 50 near Dayton that involved an on-duty Nevada Highway Patrol trooper.

Prompted by his 11-year-old son to get involved with the local DARE organization, a Carson City real estate agent is spearheading a golf tournament and kids golf clinic on Saturday, June 17 at Silver Oak Golf and Event Center.

The Reno-Tahoe Odyssey, a 178 mile relay, passes through Carson City on its way to Virginia City. A huge congratulations goes out to the Class of 2017; the Carson High graduates will get their diplomas today. Congratulations on surviving yet another school year, it's officially summer. Celebrate with a family outing to Bower's Mansion and stick around for some live music by Acoustic Solution. Watch out for motorcycles, now that the Spring Rally has rumbled into town, the bikes will be out in full force. Tonight, head over to the Fandango to enjoy the Trey Stone Trio or grab a Hawaiian shirt and join in the Beach Party Karaoke fun at Carson Lanes.

It’s the perfect time to enjoy family and friends and some great music. The Carson Nugget powers it up to rock out tonight with Volt: A Tribute to AC/DC in their ballroom. Dayton Valley Golf Course offers up dinner and a show with this year’s debut of Concerts on the Green. Blues Monster and pulled pork sliders are a great way to enjoy the evening.

Fire up that grill, Carson City, we’ve got the perfect weather to kick off the summer. The early Farmers Market at Musser and Nevada offers the perfect finishing touches to any picnic or bar-be-que. It’s all aboard for train lovers: the V&T begins its runs to Virginia City this weekend and the historic Glenbrook Engine is all steamed up at the Railroad Museum. See what Tempest the students of Carson High Drama have stirred up as they perform their annual ‘Shakespeare in the Park’ at the Capitol Amphitheater. The GE Family Concert Series in Minden kicks off tonight with Garratt Wilkin and The Parrotheads; you’ll want to bring a jacket, it’s still gets chilly once the sun goes down.

Local educators Lacey Carey and Shanall Cavener were honored Tuesday as the Rotary Club of Carson City's Teachers of the Year.

It’s going to be gorgeous all weekend long, and there are plenty of ways to take advantage of the sunny weather. The Annual Cops and Kids Open House at the Carson City Sheriff’s Department is a family favorite with free food, activities, and games. Treasure hunters will be kept busy with the Genoa Community Garage Sale, as well as one encompassing the Saratoga Springs area of Johnson Lane. The stars will be shining bright tonight, though, Western Nevada Musical Theater Company debuts its spring musical ‘Nice Work if You Can Get It’ complete with amazing choreography, melodies, and an exceptional cast. Cinco de Mayo parties all over town offer up food and drink specials, in addition to the fun times that can usually be found on a Friday night. Start the day with a cup of joe or a yummy blended drink at Dutch Brothers Coffee and you’ll be helping find a cure for ALS.

Take advantage of the spring sunshine and seize the day. Virginia City roars with the sound of their annual Grand Prix. Beer and brats aren’t usually associated with ballet, but the Sierra Nevada Ballet makes the annual event at the Brewery Arts Center a great time for all. The Earth Spirit Faire wraps up its weekend of wellness at the Community Center. Head to Reno for a Cinco De Mayo Celebration at the Grand Sierra that features musicians, cuisine, and carnival rides.

Hold on to your hat, the weekend is here. If it’s a cowboy hat, head over to Genoa for their annual Cowboy Festival. Plenty of free things to see, hear, and experience await. The annual Spring Earth Spirit Faire lets you celebrate Mother Earth with workshops, holistic practitioners, great vendors, and a raffle. It benefits the Heart to Heart School and Advocates to End Domestic Violence so it’s always worth checking out. A 39-year-old woman was arrested on multiple charges including drug trafficking, conspiracy, furnishing drugs to a prisoner and burglary, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Holy moly, it’s going to be a busy weekend: busy and gorgeous out. A bowling tournament and the Comstock Shootout Soccer tournament have the hotels and motels busting at the seams. Robots already permeate our lives at almost every turn and each day brings new revelations about how robots are taking over the once hum-drum jobs humans no longer wish to perform — or manufacturers no longer wish to pay humans the salaries and benefits it takes to manufacture a widget.
