CHS orchestra earn gold rating, outstanding musician recognition at San Francisco festival

The Carson High School Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. Brian Fox, traveled to the San Francisco Bay Area this weekend to participate in a regional music festival sponsored by Forum Music Festivals.

Recently, several CHS freshman Biology classes had the opportunity to work with fourth graders from Empire Elementary in Carson City. Students learned about conservation, the water cycle, and the Carson River watershed. CHS students, trained by the River Wranglers conservation group, and on a very windy day, met up with Empire Elementary students at Baily Pond.

Consort Canzona Presents 'Hassler & Company' Concerts May 3-4 at Shepherd of the Sierra

Consort Canzona, a select group of instrumentalists and singers specializing in early music, will present two Hassler & Company concerts this spring on Friday, May 3, at 7 p.m., and Saturday, May 4, at 4 p.m., at Shepherd of the Sierra Lutheran Church, 3680 Highway 395 (just south of Best Buy) in Carson City. Director is Gary Schwartz. Admission is free, donations welcome.

Brass quintet to play at BAC's Expresso Yourself Cafe as part of Carson City wine walk

Gilson Going Solo at PLNU Chamber Orchestra Concerto Concert

Going solo, regardless the venture, can be a scary thought. Add a violin, a complex classical piece, and an audience of a couple hundred music enthusiasts, and a whole different kind of focus is required.

Such is not a new experience for 2018 Sierra Lutheran High School alumna Aleyna Gilson, who will find the spotlight on her again at the end of this month when she performs Mendelssohn’s concerto in E minor at the Orchestra Concerto Concert at Point Loma Nazarene University, in San Diego.

I just returned from Orange, Virginia from a conference held at Montpelier, former US President James Madison's estate. I was chosen among applicants to attend this conference because I think our community needs to know the cool educational opportunities in which teachers are embarking. The conference covered “Gender, Sexual Identity, and the Constitution.”

New director joins Carson City's Children's Museum of Northern Nevada

The Children's Museum of Northern Nevada in Carson City recently appointed Benjamin Korn as its new Executive Director.

"We were delighted to extend an offer to Mr. Korn because he had extensive fundraising experience as well as an MA in Non Profit Arts Management" says Casey Gilles, Board President. "The museum's Board of Directors felt these two attributes made him an ideal candidate that would chart a new course for the museum involving increased resource development, enhanced constituent engagement, and a focus on revising the museum's collection."
