Mother’s Day is Sunday, and there will be plenty of ways for the family to enjoy spending time together all weekend long. Treat Mom to some new flowers for the garden at the annual Greenhouse Project Plant Sale. The Nevada State Museum has a day full of cowboy-related activities planned. Head up to Virginia City on the V and T for a memorable ride through the hills. May 12, 2018 (All day) On Saturday, May 12, your Carson City area letter carrier will be doing more than just delivering letters and packages. They will be collecting food as part of the national Stamp Out Hunger Food drive.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the largest one day food drive in the nation. Letter carriers have collected over one billion pounds of food since the first food drive in 1998.

After collecting as many pottery bowls as possible throughout the year, the local Empty Bowls Project is holding its annual fundraiser Friday, Dec. 2 at the First Presbyterian Church in downtown Carson City to deliver a blow to hunger in the community.

Ready to have some fun? Virginia City’s Chili on the Comstock Cook-off goes on all weekend. For some healthier fare, hit up the Spring Farmers Market downtown. Go fly a kite at Dangberg Home Historic Park, just past Douglas High School on Highway 88; their ‘Something in the Wind’ Celebration is both Saturday and Sunday. Don’t forget to leave non-perishable food by your mailbox: the annual ‘Stamp Out Hunger’ food drive is today. Take a gander at the whole list, there is plenty of stuff to do in the Carson City area this weekend.

May 14, 2016 (All day) It is again time for the annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive. This is the largest one day food drive in the nation, and helps local food banks stay stocked through the summer. All donations stay in the community in which they are collected. Last year we collected over 30,000 pounds of food for our community.

Happy Mother’s Day, Carson City! Several family friendly events are occurring around town this weekend. Take a ride on the McKeen Motor Car at the Nevada State Railroad Museum or the Ferris Wheel at RSVP’s Spring Fair and Carnival. A Harmonica and Strings Concert at Empire Elementary School showcases what some of our talented students can do. Get up early and head over to the Carson City Airport if your youngster has any interest in planes: Young Eagles flights are happening today if the weather permits.

May 11, 2013 (All day) The 21st Annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive will take place this year on the Saturday before Mother's Day, May 11th. This is the largest one day food drive in the nation, and since it's start has collected over 1.2 billion pounds of food.
All the food collected goes to local organizations that help feed the hungry in our community. This year Advocates to End Domestic Violence, F.I.S.H., and the Ron Wood Center will be participating.
