Carson City homeless benefit with Tom Petty, Rod Stewart tribute bands, WNC fundraising dinner, wine walk, 'Frozen 2' screening at Carson Mall highlight weekend events

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. The monthly Downtown Carson City Wine Walk takes place Saturday followed by a performance from Tom Petty and Rod Stewart tribute bands during The Do Drop In’s “A Face in the Crowd” homeless fundraiser at Fuji Park. St. Teresa School will host its 17th annual Crab Feed Fundraiser. Combined with comedy at the Carson Nugget and Brewery Arts Center, the Carson City region is in store for a busy weekend. Students and staff at St. Teresa School in Carson City celebrated Dr. Seuss Friday. Many dressed up in costumes representing characters from the books written and illustrated by the legendary children's book author, Theodore Seuss Geisel.

St. Teresa School Mountain Bike Team takes shape

St. Teresa of Avila school in Carson City started a mountain bike team this year. Lisa Broman, owner of Blue Zone Sports, was instrumental in getting the team organized. The team has done two meets so far and two to go through National Interscholastic Cycling Association.

Winter may be showing up fashionably late, but she was certain to make an entrance. Schools in Carson City are closed due to the snowfall we received last night, but Carson Valley and Lyon County schools will be open. For the kids of Youth Theater Carson City: the show must go on.

St. Teresa School Second Annual Lenten Fish Fry

UPDATE: St. Teresa's annual Lenten Fish Fry has been rescheduled for Friday, March 23 at St. Teresa School. The event was scheduled for Friday, March 16 but has been postponed due to weather.

St. Teresa School Second Annual Lenten Fish Fry will take place Friday, March 16 at St. Teresa School in Carson City.

There will be two seatings, at 5:00 p.m. and 6:15 p.m. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for kids, children under 8 free. Tickets available at the door, at the school office or by will call at 882-2079.

All proceeds benefit our hard working teachers.

Thursday, Nov. 23: Things to do on Thanksgiving

A very happy Thanksgiving to you and yours. Because of the holiday, just about everywhere will be closed with the exception of casinos and a few grocery stores with limited hours. Earn yourself a second helping of pie by participating in the annual Turkey Trot. In Carson City, you’ll start the 5K or 8K run at the Governor’s Mansion on Mountain Street. If you’re in the Carson Valley, head to Minden Park for their inaugural 5K.

April showers are bringing some unusual blooms to the Legislative lawn. Join Prevent Child Abuse Nevada and Advocates to End Domestic Violence in the annual planting of the pinwheels. We should have a break from the rain by then, but it’ll still be a windy day. Stick around downtown for a special tour of our historic Capitol with Muscle Powered. The storm won’t stop the fun to be found in the valley tonight. Read on to see all your nightlife options, including a free concert at the Sierra at Shepherd of the Sierra Lutheran Church and two performances by comedian Kevin Farley at the Nugget.

It’s a common tradition to say what you are thankful for today. I am grateful for you, Carson City, my community. Enjoy the day with your families, friends, and loved ones. It’s a quiet day in town. The annual Turkey Trot Run begins at 8:30 a.m. in front of the Governor’s Mansion, costumes are always welcome. A free Thanksgiving Day meal at the Carson Nugget is offered to all. A few local taverns will open this evening for some after-feast libations.

13th Annual Crab Feed to be Held March 5

Surf and Turf will be featured at this year’s 13th Annual Crab Feed scheduled for Saturday, March 5, beginning at 5 p.m. at the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William Street.

This wildly popular annual dinner supports the St. Teresa of Avila Catholic School in Carson City, educating kids in grades K-8 and providing preschool and pre-K programs in its Child Development Center.

Not surprisingly, most everything in town is closed today to celebrate a day of thanks with family and friends. Turkeys with all the trimmings, football games, and after-dinner naps will be served up across town. For those who would rather skip the fuss of a day spent in the kitchen, head on over to the Carson Nugget. The annual Community Feast fills up hearts and bellies. This evening, head downtown to celebrate at the Blue Bull, Westside Pour House, or Jimmy G's Cigar Bar.

The annual Turkey Trot is a fun 5 or 8K run around the west side of town Thanksgiving morning. Costumes, silliness, and good times had for all. Sign up this afternoon at St. Teresa school. Living the Good Life is a good go-to for Tuesday night fun with bar games and trivia. Pizza lovers should head to Brugo’s for their weekly beer specials and a special tasting with High Sierra Brewery.

Wreaths Across America event in Carson City honors veterans

This morning, Governor Brian Sandoval joined the Battle Born Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the first grade class from St. Teresa School in laying a wreath as part of the Wreaths Across America Project.
