Carson City Symphony presents "Pipes and Rails" at Artown in Reno
Carson City Symphony is coming to Reno to perform for Artown! The concert is on Tuesday, July 5, 7:30 p.m., at Trinity Episcopal Church, 200 Island Avenue. The program, "Pipes and Rails," features organ soloist Michael Langham and guest singer Olivia Hakel. Admission is $10 at the door, or online at activitytickets.com.
The Symphony, directed by David Bugli, will play favorite railroad tunes, marches, and more. Trinity Music Director and Principal Organist Michael Langham will play Alexandre Guilmant's Symphony No. 1 for Organ and Orchestra on the magnificent Casavant Freres Pipe Organ, which has 37 ranks and 2,177 pipes, and was first played in 1999. Langham has played harp and piano with the Carson City Symphony, coached and accompanied the Carson Chamber Singers, and is a founding member of Quintessence harp ensemble.
A highlight of the show is Bugli's arrangements of "Choo Choo Ch'Boogie" and "On the Atchison, Topeka and the Santa Fe" featuring Olivia Hakel and orchestra. A versatile performer, Hakel sings many styles of music, from opera to pops. She has been a resident artist with the Nevada Opera in Reno for the past four seasons, and also performed on Carson City Symphony's June Pops concerts in 2010 and 2011.
The concert is funded in part by grants from the Nevada Arts Council, a state agency, and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency. For information, call the Carson City Symphony at 775-883-415 or see http://CCSymphony.com .
