Events include the monthly downtown Carson City wine walk, plus karaoke at Bella Vita Bistro and Y-NOT Saloon. The Forest Service begins its first “Ski With a Ranger” at Lake Tahoe’s Heavenly Mountain Resort on Friday. Combined with championship football festivities on Sunday, the Silver State is in store for a wild, good time.

There's Flag Day ceremonies at the Nevada Veterans Memorial and at the Elks Lodge. The Stewart Father’s Day Powwow happens Friday to Sunday and features hundreds of American Indian dancers, drummers artists and cultural enthusiasts. Lace up the tennis shoes for the Eastside Historical tour of the capital city hosted by Muscle Powered. Journey of Hope returns to Western Nevada College at 5 p.m. to settle into the evening. Open Mic Night at A to Zen will cap-off an eventful Friday heading into the weekend.

Head down to McFadden Plaza, even if you didn’t take the challenge personally. You’ll find live music, raffles, bike games, and too much fun. Western Nevada Musical Theater Company returns for another weekend of Singin’ in the Rain at the Bob Boldrick Theater. Antsy McClain and the Trailer Park Troubadours are waiting to entertain you at the Brewery Arts Center. There may be some balcony seating still available, but tickets are very limited.

Let me tell you, downtown is going to be hopping, not to mention the Early Season Farmers Market making its seasonal debut in the parking lot at W. Musser and N. Nevada – just behind Due Sorella. Take the kids down to Bailys Pond at Fuji Park for the annual Tom Brooks Memorial Kids’ Fishing Day. A trip to the train museum comes with the opportunity to ride on the Historic McKeen Motor Car.

This free concert will feature traditional tunes such as White Christmas, Oh Holy Night and Silent Night. The Voices of the Sierra Choir will perform several holiday selections and the always-popular holiday sing along is also planned.

It's a chance to come as you are and experience traditional music of the church in a new context, and maybe recapture some of the joy of the original composers. In December, we're tossing out the normal hymn books and singing our favorite Christmas carols. Musicians are invited to bring their instruments and join in; song sheets are provided.

State Song Record: Home Means Nevada sing-along at 25,000 feet
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Thu, 10/30/2014 - 3:55pmCarson City resident Ken Beaton was flying from Las Vegas to Reno Thursday morning on Southwest Airlines when, at 10 a.m., he commissioned a flight attendant to help him lead 154 passengers and crew members in singing “Home Means Nevada” at 25,000 feet.
The 39-year-resident of Carson City printed up 25 sheets of lyrics, passed them out to passengers and encouraged them to share and sing along. A flight attendant recorded it on a cell phone while he sang it over the 737 jet’s public address system.
Nevada prepares to set record for most people to simultaneously sing state song

Brian Sandoval and the Nevada 150 Commission for #NevadaSings, a state-wide simultaneous sing along of “Home Means Nevada.” On Thursday, Oct. 30 at 10 a.m., Nevadans will join together to demonstrate their state pride by singing a rendition of “Home Means Nevada” in an attempt to set the record for the most people in an American state to sing their state song at the same time.
