Fall is bulb planting time. Most people are familiar with the basic bulbs such as daffodils and tulips, but what about some of the plants commonly called bulbs that are actually corms, rhizomes, tubers or tuberous roots? All of these terms refer to the specialized underground structures that are storage organs for many of our spring blooming plants.

A little over 40 years ago we were instrumental in helping acquire the Brewery Center for the Arts campus. We then set about creating our gallery and have been up and running continuously for the past 40 years.

Nevada Commission for Women unveils historic license plate honoring 100 years of women's suffrage

The Nevada Commission for Women unveiled a limited edition license plate celebrating women’s suffrage as a commemoration of the 100th anniversary of women gaining the right to vote.

The plate itself is historic to Nevada, as it was the first assembly bill, Assembly Bill 499, to be backed by only women. Bills need a majority vote to pass any legislation, and this session was the first session any state in the country saw a legislature with a female-led majority.

Events include the second annual Evening with Divas in Carson City, a Día de Muertos celebration at the Nevada State Museum, Nevada Artists Association’s 40th anniversary celebration, paranormal ghost investigations in Virginia City, a pie baking contest in Gardnerville and much more!

They say the veil is thinnest between the spirit world and ours on Halloween. But today, I’d like to challenge you to examine another veil, the veil between what your mask communicates and who you are. Yes, today we are talking about authenticity. And for many leaders, this can be a scary topic (boo). But as the leader of yourself, or of a company, you owe it to yourself to ask this question. Am I in alignment with the mask I show to the world?

Artists from Carson City, Minden and Gardnerville will be featured at the 25th annual Northern Nevada Artisan Show and Sale this Friday and Saturday, Nov. 1-2 in Reno.

The event’s 25th anniversary will be dedicated to the memory of Jim McCormick, UNR Art Department chair, artist, curator and one of the founders of the show. Admission is free.

Carson City Victory Rollers host two-day Nevada Day tournament

This Nevada Day weekend, come see what real Battle-Born warriors Look like. Your Carson Victory Rollers are battling The Lockeford Liberators, Outlaws Roller derby, Floodwater Roller Derby, Sierra Regional Roller Derby, and The Idaho Rebel Rollers in the derby ring for the Silver Skate title.

"Murder at the Sock Hop"

It will be presented Saturday, November 9th, 2019 at the Governor's Mansion, 606 Mountain St., Carson City.

Thursday opens the first of the four-day annual RSVP Nevada Day Carnival at Mills Park with $1 ride family night hosted by Carson City Toyota. Nevada Day Parade to be televised to national audience

Each year, the Nevada Day parade makes its way through downtown Carson City in the biggest event of the year. The annual celebration of Nevada's induction into Statehood is a time-honored and popular tradition, with upwards of 20,000 people flocking to the Capital region. This year, however, you don't have to be in the Capital city to be a part of the celebration.

A 26-year-old transient man was arrested in the 2200 block of N. Carson Street on three counts of battery with a deadly weapon, one count of assault with a deadly weapon, and one count of indecent conduct after allegedly attacking a sheriff’s deputy.

Local resident William Puchert has an online campaign underway to get kilt manufacturer Sport Kilt to offer the Nevada State Tartan through their Design Your Own Tartan Contest. They offer kilts and products for less than $100, which is more affordable to getting the tartan fabric and having it made, which places the costs into hundreds of dollars. Sport Kilt already offers a California State Tartan. The contest deadline is Nov. 1 a day after Nevada Day!

The kilt manufacturer has told Puchert if he can show a significant demand for the tartan style, they would consider offering it as one of their products next year.

Proscenium Players Inc. Presents: 'War of the Worlds' at Carson City's Brewery Arts Center

The Proscenium Players Inc. are performing War of the Worlds in the Brewery Art Center’s Black Box Theatre on Friday, Nov. 22 and Saturday, Nov. 23. The shows starts at 7 p.m. and doors open at 6:30 p.m.

On October 30, 1938, Orson Welles directed and narrated a radio drama adaptation of H.G. Wells’s novel War of the Worlds. Audiences tuned-in to hear the stories of Martians crash-landing on earth, not knowing it was only a play, and prompted news stories of widespread panic over a nonexistent alien invasion.
