Celebrate New Year’s at Casino Fandango with The Lost Reverends of the High Sierra

Come celebrate the new year with popular local band, The Lost Reverends of the High Sierra in the Cabaret in Casino Fandango, 3800 South Carson St., New Year’s Eve from 9:00PM until 1:00AM.

The Lost Reverends are well known for their fun and energetic shows, covering genres such as rock, blues, country and even a show tune or two. Front man and lead singer, Dougie L is also known to bust out some American Songbook classics from the likes of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Tony Bennett and others.

Heading into the weekend, post-Christmas holiday activities continue around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include a Christmas Through the Years presentation at the Carson Valley Community Theater, Open Mic Night at A to Zen Gift Shop, musicians Lauren Kepler and Dan Cypher at Bella Vita Bistro, laughs at the Carson Comedy Club and much more!

Carson City community donates 159 winter coats for kids as part of Carson Nugget fundraiser

The Carson Nugget and Food For Thought, a Carson city nonprofit that is dedicated to feeding children in need, teamed up this fall and launched a winter coat drive that culminated Monday where dozens of children were able to pick their new jackets and parkas and enjoy a holiday brunch among friends and family.

Heading into Christmas Eve, activities around the capital city are winding down, but the last minute shopping will continue, so prepare for that rush on the roadways and at local stores. It is the last day of the Holiday Craft Show at Carson Mall, so stop on by. There are no planned Muscle Powered fitness events scheduled. With only two shopping days left until Christmas be sure stop by the Carson Mall for the final days of its Holiday Craft Show. Weather wise we're looking at some valley snow showers into the afternoon and evening. Activities include a spirited discussion by local historian CW Bayer about the origins of Reno's tawdry reputation, plus Carson Cigar Company will hold its annual Ugly Sweater Christmas Party. Food for Thought closes out coat drive with 130 coats collected for Carson City kids in transition

On Monday, Dec. 23, more than 130 Carson City children in transition will receive a brand new coat, a gift and a holiday brunch, thanks to the efforts of Food for Thought, a Carson City-based non-profit dedicated to feeding children, and the generosity of the Carson City Nugget Casino Hotel.

Last Saturday I was part of the Rotary Club's Shopping Spree. This annual event pairs a Rotarian with a needy child in hopes of purchasing gifts for the child and members of his/her family.

The young man that I accompanied was a rather precocious and talkative eight-year old who was a bit jaded when it came to acknowledging the magic of Christmas. However, during the shopping part of the activity, my new young friend became very animated and hopeful as he talked about selecting gifts for his family and for himself.

Carson City area weather: Holiday travel best by Saturday, snow in Sierra by Sunday

With the holiday travel period beginning this weekend, the National Weather Service says warm weather will last through Friday with a storm expected to bring gusty winds Saturday with snowfall in the Sierra by Sunday.

Dan is a San Francisco native who has appeared on several episodes of An Evening at the Improv, VH-1, MTV, and Comic Strip Live. Since then, he has opened for such superstars as Jerry Seinfeld, the late Garry Shandling, Kenny Loggins, Smokey Robinson, and Vince Gill.

Carson City man killed on tribal land tried and acquitted in 2019 on lewdness with a child charges (Updated)

UPDATE: A 23-year-old Carson City man who died Friday from multiple gunshot wounds was tried and acquitted at a Lake Tahoe court earlier this year on charges of indecent exposure and lewdness with a child under the age of 12, court records show. Kyle Sullivan Bryan was found not guilty by a jury on both counts on April 11, 2019 in El Dorado County Superior Court in South Lake Tahoe.

A Carson City man who died from multiple gunshots Friday in what is being investigated as a possible homicide on Washoe Tribe land was arrested in 2018 for warrants out of South Lake Tahoe for alleged lewdness with a child.

Two Carson City men were arrested Sunday for suspicion of felony assault with a deadly weapon and misdemeanor battery, a sheriff's deputy said.
