Carson City DMV paving begins Monday, to impact parking through summer months
Parking at the Carson City Department of Motor Vehicles office will be noticeably impacted through the end of July as the second phase of a drainage and parking project begins Monday, June 3.
The department is encouraging customers to use alternate services and to make an appointment if an office visit is necessary.
The project includes resurfacing the parking areas around the facility as well as repaving the Commercial Driver License skills test course and employee parking.
The DMV is also adding an entirely new parking lot. The project includes paving over what the DMV staff has nicknamed “Lake DMV,” a mainly dirt lot located south of the building between the DMV and Lowe’s.
Carson City Public Works recently finished the first phase of the overall project, which fixed drainage problems and will reduce the seasonal flooding in the lot.
“While the immediate impacts of the project aren’t ideal, the outcome is much needed. The parking lots around the building badly need resurfacing, and paving over the dirt lot will dramatically increase our parking,” says DMV Public Information Officer, Alexandra Walden. “We are doing everything in our power to reduce impact to customers and staff.”
The DMV encourages customers to use its many alternative service options in order to skip the trip all together. With online and MyDMV services, customers can register a new car, transfer plates, renew registrations, request an address change, and more — all without leaving home! Additionally, the DMV partners with AAA to serve customers on vehicle related services.
“Many people still don’t realize we partner with AAA to offer services like vehicle registrations, license plate surrenders, disabled plates and placards, temporary moving permits and duplicate titles at specific AAA locations.” Walden says, “You don’t have to be a AAA member to use these services, and there are no additional fees to process the transaction at these special locations.”
The DMV office and AAA offices in Carson City also have self-service kiosks for registration renewals and driver history printouts.
