Carson City streets to be closed for weekend Living Nativity

UPDATE: The Santa Parade slated for today, Saturday, has been canceled due to weather.

There are two events this weekend that will impact streets in Carson City, the annual downtown Santa Claus parade beginning Saturday morning at Telegraph Square and the Living Nativity Scene, which takes place Saturday and Sunday evening.

Polar Express 2016 aboard the V&T sold out; waitlist available

For the sixth consecutive year, The Polar Express holiday train rides on the historic Virginia & Truckee Railroad have sold out. More than 15,000 passengers secured rides on the only train in Northern Nevada that visits the North Pole.

Annual Cookies with Santa at Adele’s benefits Ron Wood Family Resource Center, Toys for Tots

Cookies with Santa takes place Saturday, Dec. 17, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Cafe at Adele’s, in what has become one of Carson City’s defining holiday events. All money and gifts collected goes to Ron Wood Family Resource Center for Toys for Tots.

Sassafras will show you a good time tonight: Whatitdo hits the stage at 8 p.m. Local favorite, Antsy McClain, brings a whole trailer park full of fun to his Christmas show at the Brewery Arts Center.

Pets get pictures with Santa at Benson's in Carson City

If you haven't asked your pets if they've been good for Christmas, now might be a good time.

Santa Claus will be at Benson's Feed and Tack, located at 2750 Highway 50 East in Carson City, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10 for pictures with your best furry friends.

Dream Center serves up Christmas dinner, caring in Carson City

At the end of Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol," Ebenezer Scrooge surprises the humble Cratchit family with a prize turkey for Christmas dinner. Although that story is fiction, the Northern Nevada Dream Center's (NNDC) annual Dream Christmas dinner event in Carson City is not.

It’s a winter wonderland out there, but it does come with unique perils. Please give yourself extra time to get where you’re going, the roads may be slick. The weekend is quickly approaching bringing fun events like the State Railroad Museum’s Santa Train, a special performance by Antsy McClain at the Brewery Arts Center, and the return of the drive-through Living Nativity at the United Methodist Church. If you’re itching for the chance to get your picture with Santa, head to Red’s Old 395 tonight. Stretch your vocal cords with karaoke at Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar or at Living the Good Life.

Gift Drive and photos with Santa at Bradway Properties this Saturday

Broadway Properties in Carson City will host a free photo with Santa Claus this Saturday, Dec. 10. Bring an unwrapped gift or gift card for a senior or a child and receive a free photo with Santa.

Donated gifts go to Friends for All and Toys for Tots, reputable charities in the Carson City area serving seniors and children.

75 years ago, the USS Nevada was one of the battleships trapped when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. She was the only battleship to get underway during the attack, and according to Naval historian Kermit (Kit) H. Bonner the ship was "the only bright spot in an otherwise dismal and depressing morning" for the United States. Today we remember those lost in that attack, and remember the history behind the battleship that is our battle born namesake. A special exhibit of USS Nevada artifacts, and a lecture on her history are free for all at the State Museum at 1 p.m.

What do you need to get in the holiday spirit? Carson City probably has it covered. Watch ‘A Christmas Wish’ with Jimmy Durante at the monthly meeting of the Carson City Classic Cinema Club. Let the talented kids of ‘Strings in the Schools’ entertain you with their annual ‘This is Not a Christmas Concert’ Concert at the Community Center. If you need some bowl-full-of-jelly belly laughs, then the Super Santa Extravaganza, featuring some of the area’s funniest stand-up comics, is for you. You’ll find that in the Brewery Arts Center Black Box Theater. For a good dose of Christmas lights, head to the Johnson Lane area. Off Stephanie Lane, on Chaparral Court, is a spectacular display known as Nevada Christmas.

UPDATE SATURDAY, DEC. 10: The Christmas Santa Parade in downtown Carson City has been canceled due to weather. Santa Claus, however, will be at the Rocking and Rolling store at Telegraph Square beginning at 11 a.m.

You better watch out, you better not cry. You better not pout, either, because Santa Claus is coming to town Saturday, Dec. 10 during the Olde Time Christmas Santa Parade in downtown Carson City.

Christmas Tree Lighting Festival today in Dayton

The annual Dayton Christmas Tree lighting is today, Sunday, Dec. 4 beginning at 5 p.m. at Our Park. Festivities include pictures with Santa, a Civil War Christmas display, cookies and hot drinks, music, carols, an ugly sweater contest, plus if you donate a non-perishable food item, you have a chance to be the official tree lighter.
