A much welcomed blanket of snow fell over the Carson City, western Nevada and Lake Tahoe areas overnight, giving way to the first snowfall of the season and a relief for the much-needed precipitation in our parched climate.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of events around the Carson City region. The November Gobble Wine Walk kicks off in downtown Carson City followed by a new “Paths and Pedals” bike tour. The Carson City Sheriff’s Office will be joining forces with other law enforcement agencies statewide starting Nov. 9 through Nov. 21 for our annual “Click It or Ticket” campaign. This event aims at enforcing seat belt use to help keep drivers and passengers safe.

A strong storm will push through the Sierra and western Nevada beginning Friday into the weekend, bringing gusty winds, much colder temperatures and chances for rain and snow showers, according to the National Weather Service.

Retailers in Nevada and throughout the United States are ramping up hiring campaigns for the all-important holiday shopping season. In the Silver State, the Retail Association of Nevada estimates retailers will boost hiring by 4,700 positions during the holiday shopping period.

The entire Museum gets a spooky twist to it and kids are able to go to each exhibit and trick-or-treat! This year the Museum has worked tirelessly to make the event safe due to Covid-19.

I have a Huckleberry friend who has kept me humored during the pandemic. Huck is a Steller's jay, his species is named for an 18th century German naturalist, but his name comes from a boy who had some adventures out on the Mississippi River in the 19th century, as immortalized by Mark Twain.

Chase will open its first Carson City branch bank Tuesday on South Carson Street and Eagle Station as part of its northern Nevada expansion, making it the 10th location in the region.

South Carson Street now has new sidewalks, fresh roadway, improved lighting, and landscaping, with more landscaping to come. The street is back to two-way traffic in time for Nevada Day.
