New theater, entertainment and dining hotspot to open in heart of South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by editor on Thu, 11/12/2015 - 6:44pmMagic, cuisine and live music will raise the roof this winter with the opening of The Loft Theatre, a new all-ages performance theater and dining venue in the heart of South Lake Tahoe.
The Loft is a first for the California side of Tahoe South that combines a theater, with nightly live entertainment, a lounge and restaurant for families and adults. Located on the third floor of the Heavenly Village Cinema, the $1 million complex features 107-seats, a separate dining area serving authentic Italian cuisine, bar and lounge.

Liz Penniman Exhibit at the WNC Gallery

Her artistic roots are influenced by the San Francisco Bay Area Figurative Movement, and her education at the Art Student's League of New York focused first on classical portraiture and later on abstract expressionism. She currently lives and works in the North Tahoe/Truckee area and participates in The Reno Art Salon and Critique Circle.
WNC Main Gallery Showcases Narrative Painting

Showing now through Nov. 7, Penniman’s collection titled “Lines and Fields: Abstract Narrative Paintings” appears in the WNC Main Gallery.

Each year about this time, Lorin Rowan and Chris Rowan bring patrons an evening of music that includes both new and old original songs and an array of everything from rock and pop to Americana and bluegrass.
Well versed in many genres and presented accoustically with beautiful harmonies, an evening with The Rowans is always a delight.
“This is something we always look forward to,” Lorin said.

Column: Elm leaf beetles common this time of year

While elms are hardy drought tolerant trees for arid Nevada, they are plagued by elm leaf beetles every year. By this time of year, the trees look half-dead with white to brown ragged leaves.

The news of Sheriff Deputy Carl Howell’s shooting death has rallied the community, beginning with a large candlelight vigil held last Saturday at the Capitol. Today the officer will be laid to rest after a funeral service at the Reno Convention Center. A procession will leave the Carson City Courthouse at 9 a.m. and travel north along Carson Street. Various fundraisers have begun for the wife and four children that Howell leaves behind. For more information on the procession and how to donate, please go here and here.

You won’t want to miss Carl Sonny Leland at the Performance Hall of the Brewery Arts Center. The boogie-woogie hall of famer will show you what fun can be had with a piano. Community Roots and the Dayton Farmers Market to Host Book Signing

The authors’ new book, Images of America: Dayton is the first book written about the community in more than 50 years. The book traces the early days of Dayton, and captures the founding spirit of the community. Market goers can purchase a copy of the book and have it signed with all proceeds benefitting the Dayton Historical Society.

A pest might be annoying (ants), damaging to plants (rabbits), a health concern (ticks) or a cause for fear (black widow spiders). However, relatively few pests cause significant injury to plants, so pesticides are rarely needed.

Dayton Farmers Market to Host River Wranglers this Thursday

The River Wranglers organization inspires young people to learn about the importance of our area rivers and share that knowledge with others. During the Dayton Farmer’s Market members will provide hands on demonstrations to educate shoppers about the importance of conservation and other efforts to promote healthy rivers in our area.
