Girl Scout Day at the 2018 Great Reno Balloon Race

Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada will host their ultimate balloon scavenger hunt adventure on Sunday, September 9 from 5 a.m. to 7 a.m at the Great Reno Balloon Race in Rancho San Rafael Park.

Girls will meet balloon pilots, help clean the park, and join other Girl Scouts from across their council. Everyone is welcome to join the fun including family, friends, and not-yet Girl Scouts. And yes – this is a free event!

Retired Carson High teacher, coach raising money to fight breast cancer

Terry Hogan, a retired physical education and science teacher and coach at Carson High School, will be running in the Reno 10 Miler race Sept. 9 to raise money for breast cancer research.

Sapien Wears the Silver Oak Crown in Carson City

Jim Sapien is the 2018 Sunday Men’s Club champion at Silver Oak golf course in Carson City. Sapien fired 69-72 to best Milo Beauchman by five strokes during the two-day club championship Aug. 18-19. Larry Johnson carded a 76-73 to finish third.

Wearing matching team T-shirts and comfortable walking shoes, a few will have their walkers or canes in hand, but that’s okay, said Amanda Jenkins, administrator at Summit Estates. “Life is a journey and our residents embrace new experiences and challenges regardless of their age or physical abilities. They are physically and mentally ready to conquer this year’s race.”
