Weworski leads group of 33 winners in Web.com qualifier at Dayton Valley Golf Club

DAYTON, Nev. — Tyler Weworski of Carlsbad, Calif., fired a 4-under 68 in the final round to finish low qualifier by five shots at 14-under par 274 in the final round of Stage One Web.com Qualifying at Dayton Valley Golf Club.

Tony Finau of Lehi, Utah shot even par 72 to finish second at 9-under. John Catlin of Gold River, Calif., and Chris Gilman of Yorba Linda, Calif., finished in a tie for third at 8-under 280. Former Nevada Wolf Pack golfer Scott Smith also qualifies in 22nd spot at 1-over 289.

Eight Nevadans sickened in Foster Farm chicken salmonella related illnesses

State agriculture officials are warning residents about a salmonella outbreak of Foster Farm chickens produced in California that have sickened eight people in Nevada.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service has issued a public health alert due to concerns that illness caused by strains of Salmonella Heidelberg are associated with raw chicken products produced by Foster Farms at three facilities in California.

Just got back from a 1,200 mile trip up the coast and into Oregon to fish and enjoy family. Renee and I enjoyed all the rivers on the way. The Russian, Klamath, Eel, Illinois, Chetco, Smith and the Rogue. Caught a few fish and had a great time.

While in Gold beach Oregon we received over 2 inches of rain in one afternoon.

Breezy conditions prompt Red Flag Warning for Carson City area

Strong afternoon winds and low humidity have prompted a Red Flag Warning by the National Weather Service for much of Northern Nevada and the Sierra.

While the wind is helping push some of the Rim Fire smoke out of Carson City, Carson Valley and Lyon County, it has also created critical fire weather conditions because of the low humidity created, according to the weather service.

Carson City firefighters assist with Rim Fire, more than 20 major events this year

An active wildfire season has sent Carson City Fire Department personnel on more than 20 assignments this year, including the Rim Fire burning near Yosemite National Park.

On Saturday Carson City Fire Department Capt. Matt Donnelly was assigned as a strike team leader with other area engines to the fire, which has chewed nearly 180,000 acres in the Stanislaus National Forest in Tuolumne County. Thick smoke from the Rim Fire continues to push through Carson City, Carson Valley, Lyon County and much of Northern Nevada.

Weather Service anticipates strong thunderstorms today for Carson City region

Another round of thunderstorms will develop Wednesday afternoon and evening over much of western Nevada, northern Sierra and Carson City as low pressure moves north along the California coast, the National Weather Service in Reno reports. The region is under a flash flood watch.

Carson City sheriff's motor officers take top spots in San Francisco competition

Last week four of the Carson City's Sheriff Office top motor officers were invited to compete in the San Francisco Police Department Motor Officer Training Challenge held at Giants Stadium.

The SFPD Training competition attracted 52 motor officers from police, sheriff and highway patrol departments from California Oregon and Nevada. In June the Carson City Sheriff's Office hosted its own 10th annual Motor Officer Training Challenge during the Legends of the West Bike and Car Fest.

ANGEL LAKE, ELKO COUNTY, NEV:
The Nevada Department of Wildlife (http://www.ndow.org) reports:
Fishing varies from day to day, with some days being good, while others being slow. Best time of day is from about 6:00 am to 10:30 am and then again after the shadows start to hit the water in late afternoon.
Best conditions seem to be with a 5 to 10 mph breeze, putting a small chop on the water.
A few fish are being taken with small dry flies, mostly yellow in color, but most of the luck is still coming with nymphs below an indicator or dry fly.

Carson City Sheriff's Office: Tier III Sex Offender registers

The Carson City Sheriff's Office advised Wednesday that a Tier III sex offender — the highest level — has registered and is now living in the area of Ramsey Circle in Carson City.

Steven Ray Glasgow, 43, was convicted in 1989 of second degree rape. The crime was committed in Oregon.

Glasgow is not wanted by the Carson City Sheriff's Office but was required under law to register with the Carson City Sheriff's Office and to provide community notification.

Two former Western Nevada College baseball players may soon meet again, in the 2013 College World Series.

North Carolina State relief pitcher Andrew Woeck and Oregon State reliever Brandon Jackson are also among a growing number of former Wildcats student athletes who made it to the College World Series after also playing in the JUCO World Series in Grand Junction, Colo., a year earlier.
