Carson City sheriff's motor officers take top spots in San Francisco competition
Last week four of the Carson City's Sheriff Office top motor officers were invited to compete in the San Francisco Police Department Motor Officer Training Challenge held at Giants Stadium.
The SFPD Training competition attracted 52 motor officers from police, sheriff and highway patrol departments from California Oregon and Nevada. In June the Carson City Sheriff's Office hosted its own 10th annual Motor Officer Training Challenge during the Legends of the West Bike and Car Fest.
This event brought in motor officers from California, Nevada, Arizona, Oregon, Florida and Canada. Several thousand people enjoyed this annual event.
The SFPD two day training event had the motor officers wowing the many spectators with precision riding skills and and great sportsmanship.
The team was also hosted to an exciting city tour and training in downtown San Francisco. The CCSO winning Officers are: Sgt. Mike Cullen riding a Harley Davidson in Division A, First Place. Joey Trotter, Riding a Harley Davidson, Division A, Third Place. Thomas Miller, riding a Harley Davidson, Division B, First Place, and Matt Smith, Riding a Harley Davidson, Division B, Second Place.
Sgt. Cullen said ”One of the next big competitions is in Milwaukee during the 110th Harley Davidson anniversary event. We are trying to raise funds to send our team, but it will take a lot to make this happen.”

On August 2nd and 3rd, 2013, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office Patrol Motor Deputies represented Carson City in San Francisco, California during a training and competition event held by the San Francisco Police Department.
Sergeant Cullen, Deputy Trotter, Deputy Miller and Deputy Smith all received trophies in their respective divisions with Sergeant Cullen returning home with top honors in the Harley Davidson Division A Class. Deputy Trotter placed third in this class.Deputy Smith and Deputy Miller battled it out in the Harley-Davidson Division B class with Deputy Miller just edging out Deputy Smith for first place. Deputy Smith brought home a second place award for that class.
Deputy Trotter also went on to compete in the Metric classes in Division A, on borrowed motorcycles, bringing back awards in each class.
In all, 52 riders trained and competed over two days, with Carson deputies bringing home six awards.
The weekend was filled with training under extreme riding conditions in and around the city with not only obstacles and cones but traffic, people and weather. All proceeds for the event went to the SFPD Police Athletic League for children.
