Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest Proposes New Fees at Group Picnic Sites
Submitted by editor on Tue, 06/17/2014 - 6:33pmComments are being sought by the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest regarding a proposal to charge fees at two group sites at the new Spring Mountains Visitor Gateway Complex at Spring Mountains National Recreation Area in southern Nevada.
Set to be finished by 2015, Spring Mountains Visitor Gateway Complex will feature a visitor center, approximately 17 miles of new trails, an education building, two amphitheaters, the Cold War Monument, the Seven Stone Memorial, and two group picnic sites.

TRPA takes tree removal permitting process online

“The new online service is more customer friendly and is in line with the Agency’s core values of improving operational efficiency while providing a high-level of customer service,” said TRPA Executive Director, Joanne S. Marchetta.
USDA offers June 12 workshop for small business, ag producers applying for energy grants

The workshop will be conducted via video teleconference from 9-11:30 a.m. at Cooperative Extension offices in Carson City, Ely, Eureka, Yerington, Caliente and at the Logandale Office. USDA Rural Energy Coordinator Mark Williams will lead the training from the Carson City location to help applicants understanding the REAP application process.
WNC summer term begins June 9

At Western Nevada College students can choose from a variety of classes in the upcoming eight-week summer term. Classes begin June 9 and continue through August 2, unless otherwise noted.
More than 40 courses are scheduled for the summer, including writing, communications, art, music, theater, accounting math, and more. Over a dozen online classes are also available, providing students the flexibility of earning college credit while enjoying their summer activities.
Carson City's 21st annual Taste of Downtown tickets go on sale

More than 40 restaurants and nine bands are participating in this signature event that spans 13 blocks and is the major fundraiser for Advocates to End Domestic Violence. Tasting begins at 5:30 p.m. and continuing until 9 p.m. Live bands will be located throughout downtown with music playing until midnight.
Nevada Day 2014 celebration planning underway in Carson City

A full schedule of events during the Nevada Day holiday weekend will be highlighted by the original Nevada Day Parade on Saturday, Nov. 1, when celebrating crowds will line the Carson Street parade route to view the floats, marching bands, horses, entertainers, public officials and celebrity guests.
Watercraft inspection stations open at Tahoe, Lahontan and two other reservoirs

The last of the Lake Tahoe area inspection stations, on State Route 267 at Northstar Drive south of Truckee in California, opened Thursday.

Applicants sought to fill open seats on Carson City visitors bureau board

The board oversees all tourism matters within Carson City. Meetings are held the second Monday of every month at 4 p.m. at the Community Center, Sierra Room. They have been known to be quite lively. Applicants must be willing to serve approximately six to eight hours a month.

Steam train rides from Carson City to the 1860s boom-era mining town of Virginia City will begin May 24 and extend weekends through Oct. 19. Friday diesel train tours will begin June 20.

Nevada law agencies zero in on speeders through May 10 in education campaign
Submitted by editor on Mon, 04/28/2014 - 11:09amSeveral of Nevada’s law enforcement agencies will target speeders in the northeastern region of the state through May 10 to change behaviors that have led to deadly crashes in the Silver State.
With its vast rural areas and wide roadways, Nevada is not immune from these behavioral challenges, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol. In 2012, of the 258 deaths on our state’s roads, 100 lives were lost due to speeding, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The death toll related to speeding increased by 24 from the previous year.
