If you’re a fisherman or fisherwoman, it’s that time of the year to remind you to purchase your Nevada 2015-2016 fishing license. That new fishing license year begins on Sunday, March 1 and will run through the last day in February, 2016.

Topaz Lake to open to fishing on New Years Day

Topaz Lake, which is located along U.S. 395 at the Nevada-California state line, will open its 2015 fishing season, one half hour before sunrise, on Thursday, Jan. 1.

If the weather is decent, if you don't have a massive hangover, if you like to fish and if you don't have anything else planned, this could be a fun way to start the New Year. Bundle up though because daytime temperatures in the area are not expected break 30 degrees.

DMV launches 'Share the Road' specialty license plate

CARSON CITY, Nev.– A specialty Nevada license plate supporting safe bicycle and pedestrian programs is now available for purchase through the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles.

The specialty plate displays a “Share the Road” message and bicycle and pedestrian image. The plates will cost an initial $61 and $30 for renewal. Proceeds of $25 per plate will provide grant money for non-profit and government organizations to plan and construct bicycle and pedestrian facilities, as well as support bicycle and pedestrian safety, education and other programs.

Nevada 150th birthday commemorative license plates still available

Those new blue license plates with the battle born emblem seem to be a more common site in parking lots in in Carson City these days. That’s no surprise to the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles which is reporting nearly 11,000 sold since July 2013.

The commemorative plates were designed to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Nevada statehood and have generated more than $320,000 in revenue to help support the yearlong sesquicentennial celebration.

Man jailed on misdemeanor drug charge, tells officers he wanted to kill people

A Carson City man was arrested early Thursday morning on a misdemeanor marijuana possession charge after a bizarre verbal exchange with law officers outside the Carson City Sheriff’s Office on Musser Street.

Kings Beach woman arrested on suspicion of third DUI

A 22-year-old Kings Beach woman was arrested Sunday on a felony charge of third offense DUI after Carson City sheriff's deputies who were at the scene of a traffic accident on Highway 50 said she nearly hit them as she passed.

Gloria Estefan Grajeda was arrested in the 4600 block of South Carson Street on suspicion of felony DUI and four misdemeanor charges.

Carson City sheriff's deputies arrest man after 2,000 grams of meth found inside car trunk

A 46-year-old Los Angeles, Calif., man was jailed early Tuesday morning on felony charges of drug trafficking and sale after approximately 2,000 grams of meth was found inside a car, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said.

Jose Reyes Andrade was arrested at 4:32 a.m. in the 100 block of East Long Street. Bail has been set at $270,000.

According to the arrest report, a Carson City deputy on patrol observed a Volkswagon Passat with Nevada license plates in front of closed businesses. The registered owner of the vehicle had a confirmed warrant.

Man jailed on drug charges gives Carson City officers his brother's ID to avoid arrest

Two men were arrested Friday, 3:45 a.m. at the intersection of William and Stewart streets in Carson City on drug-related charges.

Casey S. Clifford, 20, faces a felony charge of possession of methamphetamine and three lesser charges: obstructing an officer, possession marijuana and drug paraphernalia. A 31-year-old man was also arrested on a misdemeanor warrant and possession of drug paraphernalia charges.

Doug Busey fishing report: Drought conditions a big concern among anglers

Hello fellow anglers: I took last week off and went fishing. Some days I forgot that we are still in January. Although I enjoyed fishing without my overalls on, it scares me to think what the summer will have in store for our local lakes and rivers given the drought conditions. Lake Tahoe is just above its natural rim and still going lower.

Lahontan Reservoir in Nevada looks as big as Indian Creek. In Alpine County, the flow in the Walker River is not enough to put a trickle in Topaz Lake. We need to do a rain dance or say a lot of prayers that we get some snowpack in our Sierra's soon.

Missing 71-year-old Minden man found safe in Carson City

UPDATE: Douglas County Sheriff's Office investigators have located Edward O’Donnell in Carson City. O’Donnell is in good health and will make contact with his family.

A Carson City man faces a felony charge of indecent exposure for allegedly masturbating in a parked vehicle outside a clothing outlet store in the 4200 block of South Carson Street.

Carson City authorities search for missing state employee; disappearance appears suspicious

Carson City authorities are looking for a state employee, an insurance examiner, who is missing and may be endangered.
Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong reports William McCune, 62, a resident of an apartment complex on Silver Oak Drive is missing and the circumstances are suspicious.
McCune's vehicle, a 2000 maroon Dodge pickup, is missing and there appears to have been some kind of struggle in the man's apartment. The apartment appeared to be ransacked and blood was found.

Carson City authorities arrest man with gas can, burglary tools

A Reno man faces several misdemeanor charges after Carson City authorities found him in an empty lot siphoning gasoline from a work truck.

The 34-year-old man was arrested at 1:09 a.m. Dec. 18 in the 300 block of Hot Springs Road and faces charges of petit larceny, gross misdemeanor possessing burglary tools, possession of stolen property, tampering with a motor vehicle and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Douglas County authorities ask for help in identifying suspects

Two commercial burglaries early Monday morning in Douglas County have authorities asking the public for help in identifying the suspects with photos provided by surveillance cameras.
The first burglary occurred at the Verizon Wireless Outlet Store on Waterloo Ln sometime around 5 am, said Douglas County Sheriff's Sgt. Jim Halsey. Entry was made by the suspect smashing the glass of the exterior window of the store. Two cellular telephones, phone chargers and miscellaneous currency were stolen from inside. Douglas County authorities ask for help in locating couple wanted for questioning over unresolved murder

Authorities are asking the public for help in locating a couple wanted for questioning in the murder of Minnesota man whose remains were found in a shallow grave found earlier this year in a backcountry area of Douglas County.
The skeletal remains of Francisco Alejandro Lopez-Gonzalez, who was reported missing since May 2011 by family members, were discovered in a shallow grave on Feb. 22. His death was ruled a homicide.

Crime Log: 90-year-old Carson City woman missing

A missing persons report was filed with the Carson City Sheriff's Office at around 9 a.m. Monday for a 90-year-old woman on blood pressure medication. According to the incident report, the missing person - Kitty Webb - has not been found. She was alleged to have last been seen in a white Ford F-150 with Nevada license plates.
