Outdoors with Don Q: The new Nevada fishing license year

If you’re a fisherman or fisherwoman, it’s that time of the year to remind you to purchase your new Nevada 2012-2013 fishing license.
That new fishing license year began on March 01 and it will run through the last day in February, 2013.
As a special tip you would be well advised to purchase that new license ASAP, because if you forget, go fishing and get checked by “The Friendly Old Game Warden,” he isn’t going to be very happy nor will you.
So, if you are one of the many folks who still need to buy a new license, here is a “ton” of information regarding fishing licenses, stamps and permits:

Nevada Residents:
Annual fishing license: Persons 16 years of age or older: $29.00
Annual junior fishing license: Persons ages 12-15 of age: $13.00
Annual senior fishing license: Persons who are 65 years of age or older with five years of continuous Nevada residency: $13.00
Annual serviceman fishing license: For Nevada resident servicemen on active duty who are stationed outside of Nevada. Must show duty or leave papers at the time of purchase: $9.00
Annual severe disability fishing license: For persons with a severe physical disability which materially limits gainful employment.
First-time applicants must submit an application available from NDOW, and supporting documentation of the disability before the license can be issued.
Issued at NDOW offices only: $13.00
Annual Native American fishing license: For resident Native Americans.
First time applicants must contact a Nevada tribal council to complete the certificate of eligibility before the license can be issued.
Issued at NDOW offices only: Free
Annual disabled veteran fishing license: For veterans residing in Nevada for six months or longer who have incurred a 50 percent or more service-connected disability. First-time applicants must submit an application available from NDOW along with supporting documentation of the disability before the license can be issued.
Issued at NDOW offices only: Free

Permits and Stamps:
One-Day fishing permit: Valid until midnight of the day specified. Does not require Trout Stamp: $9.00
Each consecutive day added to a 1-day permit: Must be purchased at the same time the 1-Day Permit is purchased: $3.00
Duplicate license: Issued by Agent or NDOW: $10.00
Nevada trout stamp/privilege: Required for any license holder who takes or possesses trout. Stamp must be affixed to fishing license and validated by the license holder's signature in ink across the face of the stamp: $10.00
Nevada Colorado River special use stamp/privilege: For Nevada Licenses used for fishing on the bi-state waters or the Arizona shores: $3.00

To Purchase Licenses on-line:
You may use the NDOW website (www.ndow.org) to purchase hunting, trapping and fishing privileges and stamp privileges.
If you purchase a stamp privilege, you are NOT purchasing a physical stamp that will be affixed to your license. Instead, you will be purchasing an electronic stamp privilege that will remain a part of your records.
If you are interested in purchasing an actual physical stamp you will need to purchase the stamp at an NDOW office or select vendors.
When applying via the internet, you will be assessed a $2.00 application fee.
If you need more information regarding the Nevada Department of Wildlife's hunting, trapping and fishing regulations, go to the NDOW Homepage to view regulations prior to purchasing a license.

For Information:
Call the Fisheries Division of the Nevada Department of Wildlife headquarters in Reno at 688-1500 during regular business hours or go to the NDOW Internet website at www.ndow.org.

Bet Your favorite Pigeon
Bet your favorite pigeon that he can’t tell you which Nevada license and stamps I have for the year 2012-2013.
If he grins and says, “Don has the senior combination license, with a trout stamp and a second rod stamp,” he could have been watching when I ordered them via the NODW website at www.ndow.org.
