This year's Nevada Day Parade was indeed a special one as the Silver State celebrates its 150th Sesquicentennial. While the skies above Carson City had seen rain earlier Saturday morning, they held out for the duration of the parade, with just a few sprinkles to go along with the thousands of happy, smiling faces. Here is our first set of photos from the parade.

Hundreds of hungry Nevada Day parade revelers lined up early Saturday morning at Red's Old 395 Grill in Carson City for the 15th annual Nevada Day Pancake Breakfast hosted by Builders Alliance of Western Nevada, also known as BAWN.

The event runs through 10 a.m. and features a full line pancake breakfast, sausage and bacon. The annual breakfast benefits the BAWN Women’s Council and their philanthropic endeavors.

Nevada Day weekend forecast: Rain in Carson City, snow at Lake Tahoe through Saturday

You may want to outfit your kids with jackets and ponchos tonight for trick or treating in Carson City as rain will move into the valley by early evening, and stay through much of Saturday making for a wet Nevada Day Parade, forecasters say.

Plenty of ways to stay warm on Parade Day

Here in Carson City, the Nevada Day Parade is a great event, rain or shine, snow, wind, or likely a combination of it all. This year, we are expecting a cold one. Have no fear, however, there will be plenty of places to grab some grub, coffee, hot chocolate, bloody marys, or shelter from the rain while you watch the balloons lift off at 8 a.m. or wait for the 10 a.m. parade.

A great Nevada Day celebration starts with breakfast at the Governor's Mansion, courtesy of the Carson City Republican Women's Club. All proceeds go toward two $1,000 scholarship for two deserving students, one from Carson High and one from Dayton High.

Breakfast is available from 7:00am to 9:30am before the Nevada Day parade. The cost remains the same as it has for the past 14 years: $6 for Adults and $3 for children under 10.

Carson City launches anti-drug message through Red Ribbon campaign

“Drug Use is Life Abuse” is a message on red wristbands that is spreading throughout the community in celebration of the Red Ribbon campaign Oct. 21-31. The week-long event is one of the nation’s largest substance abuse prevention awareness causes.

Carson City Sheriff’s Office, Carson City School District, Grocery Outlet, community agencies including the Boys and Girls Club, counseling and A.A. groups are partners to make youth and citizens aware that substance abuse affects everyone.

Carson City and Lake Tahoe area road report through Nov. 2

Here is the Carson City area road report for the week of Oct. 27 through Nov. 2. Beginning Monday, October 27, through Thursday, October 30, there will be maintenance work along S. Edmonds Drive between Fairview Drive and Clearview Drive. There will be flagger controlled traffic with minor delays expected.

Sesquicentennial Honoring Reception for the 1964 Centennial Indian Princesses

Fifty years ago, Aloha Callac-Jones was one of 22 women from throughout the state to compete in a traditional Indian princess pageant to celebrate Nevada’s 100th birthday. She won the crown in 1964 and when the state celebrates its 150th birthday, Callac-Jones will be here. She will travel from her home in Florida to join in the birthday celebration and the 2014 Sesquicentennial Honoring Reception for the 1964 Centennial Indian Princesses, co-hosted by the Nevada Indian Commission and the Reception Planning Committee.

Tahoe Mountain Milers partner with Carson City Guide Dog Club for Nevada Day Classic

An annual event since 1989, The Nevada Day Classic — presented by the Tahoe Mountain Milers — is an 8K run, a 2-mile run/walk through the historic west side of Carson City. The races precede the Nevada Day Parade celebrating Nevada's entry into the Union.

This year, for the race's 25th anniversary and the Nevada’s 150th, the Classic will be organized in partnership with the Carson City Guide Dog Club and all net proceeds will go to Guide Dogs For The Blind.

J.M. Capriola Co. Designs Nevada 150 Commemorative Saddle

Many commemorative pieces have been created in the past year in celebration of Nevada’s 150th Anniversary of Statehood but the Sesquicentennial Saddle, a legacy project, showcases craftsmanship from one of the oldest professions. Leather and saddle craftsman Armondo Delgado, of J.M. Capriola Co., spent roughly 600 hours hand crafting the one of a kind saddle and Nevada silversmith Mark Dahl, designed and created the silver work.

Carson City auto mechanics celebrate Labor Day weekend with marathon truck rebuild

A retired mechanic from Carson City and some of his friends have pulled out all the stops this Labor Day weekend for a ‘round the clock truck building project that may rival anything done on TV reality shows.

John Jackson’s plan: Refurbish a 1969 Peterbilt 358 into an old school hotrod using parts from six similar rigs. A feat like this would take months if it were a weekend garage hobby and probably cost tens of thousand of dollars.

Former Carson City Mayor Marv Teixeira dies at 79

UPDATE: A celebration of life for former Carson City Mayor Marv Teixeira will be Friday, June 20, 11:30 a.m. at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church, 3000 North Lompa Lane in Carson City. Teixeira died June 5, 2014. He was 79.
A reception will follow at Eagle Valley Golf Course, 3999 Centennial Park Drive in Carson City.

Nevada Day 2014 celebration planning underway in Carson City

Nevada’s state capitol, Carson City, will host festivities to pay tribute to the Silver State’s 150th anniversary of statehood. A full schedule of events during the Nevada Day holiday weekend will be highlighted by the original Nevada Day Parade on Saturday, Nov. 1, when celebrating crowds will line the Carson Street parade route to view the floats, marching bands, horses, entertainers, public officials and celebrity guests.

Driving a Pint Size Car

I first saw a Smart Car in Paris. We were visiting my daughter who was studying abroad in the Fall of 2004. My wife took a photo of me standing behind the uber compact with my arms stretching from bumper to bumper. The design and size were like nothing I had seen in an automobile; it was very Euro.
