Get ready, the weekend is almost here and it brings with it the Way it Was Rodeo and Steampunk Ball to Virginia City, the Air Races to Reno, and the annual Edible Pedal bike ride through Washoe Valley. Before the weekend carries you away, enjoy our beautiful valley. Take in the views with Muscle Powered as they hike along Conestoga. Relax on the Veranda at Adele's and enjoy the music stylings of Linda Arnn Arteno. The art scene downtown gets a boost with Kathleen Heiner Stemler's boutique show at the Champagne Beauty Bar and a reception for artist Pam Black down the block at Artsy Fartsy.

So many wonderful things happen as the summer winds down. Glow Patrol, camels, ostriches, not to mention the return of all things pumpkin. Enjoy the last of our balmy evenings with the Mark Castro Band on the stage at Living the Good Life. Let Mike Thomas wow you with tales of ‘Undersea Wonders’ during his presentation at the Plaza. Rockabilly takes the stage at Sassafras when the Scoundrels from Vegas get started around 8:30 p.m. Meet Michael Malley at the artist reception celebrating his exhibit 'Silver State Swimmer' in the Community Center Sierra Room.

Camping, fishing, barbecue, history, cantaloupes, music, wine, and so much more are moments away. Labor Day weekend has arrived bringing the Sparks Rib Cook-off, the Fallon Cantaloupe Festival, Virginia City’s Civil War Days, and some Lake Tahoe fireworks. You can’t go wrong with Improv night at the Brewery Arts Center or Carson Comedy at the Nugget. Let the sun go down while enjoying Ten Dollar Pony on the outdoor stage at Living the Good Life. Back to school week is just about behind us, so do something to celebrate your survival. Southbound Train hits the outdoor stage at Living the Good Life, followed by hours of dancing with DJ Bobby. Cowboy Bobby will get your boots on the floor with Country Dance Night at Carson Lanes. Take the kids to Minden Park for the final family concert in their GE Series: Foreigner Unauthorized begins at 6 p.m. Shine up the chrome for the Carson SYFL Car Show at Bully’s Sports Bar, and catch some NFL pre-season while you’re there. Friday has arrived and it’s bringing with it a valley full of good times. The sixth annual Hopefest Concert and Fundraiser at Carson Tahoe Hospital kicks off at 5 p.m. Enjoy food trucks, live music with the Waybacks, and more at the free, family friendly event. McFadden Plaza is where you’ll find Jazz and Beyond’s concert with the Jackie Landrum Band, Living the Good Life is serving up a performance by Prey for Son, or take the stage yourself at Carson Lanes’ karaoke. Holy busy day, Batman! Carson City is abuzz with options. Art lovers won’t want to miss out on the Diversity Invitational Photography Show opening tonight at Mystique downtown. Celebrate Lake Tahoe’s most prestigious food, wine, spirit and brew festival this fall at the 31st Annual Lake Tahoe Autumn Food and Wine Festival September 9-11.

Presented by the North Lake Tahoe Resort Association and held at Northstar California Resort, the three-day festival features hands-on mixology and cooking classes, food, wine and craft beer pairings, a Farm-to-Tahoe dinner, tastings held at mid-mountain, and family-friendly events — all culminating in Sunday’s Culinary Competition and Grand Tasting.

Happy Tuesday, Carson City. Today’s happenings include country line dancing at Carson Lanes and swing dance at El Charro Avita. Take a walk with Carson Parks and Recreation along the Carson River by Morgan Mill. Dinner at Firehouse Subs tonight will help raise money for the Carson City Relay for Life. Did you miss the Community Art Night last month? Never fear, Artsy Fartsy and the Charlie B Art Galleries are teaming up again for a night of art, food trucks, and more in Telegraph Square downtown. Dress as your favorite superhero for Gardnerville’s Thirsty Third Thursday Wine Walk. Enjoy ice cream and a concert by the Capital City Community Band at the First United Methodist Church on Musser St. Close out the evening with karaoke at Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar.

If you hear some great music downtown, then you’re probably near Café at Adele’s. Tower of Power hits the stage for the annual Concert Under the Stars to benefit the Greenhouse Project. Grab some grub for a good cause at Buffalo Wild Wings: LBL Equine Rescue is holding a fundraiser. Take an easy ride with Muscle Powered; tonight’s ride is perfect for beginners. If you’ve got kids, Frozen is tonight’s choice for the Carson Library movie night. Classic car aficionados should head to Bully’s if they want to join in this week’s Silver Dollar Cruise Night.

THURSDAY:

Summer is moving right along. We are days away from the Fourth of July weekend: fireworks, the Downtown wine walk, a carnival at Mills Park, and Wildhorse Children’s Theater's production of Aladdin, Jr. Weekdays in Carson City aren’t shirking their duties though, as there is plenty to do today. Learn some swing dance moves at El Charro Avita or go for a walk with the Parks and Recreation Department. Singer-songwriter, Canyon White, entertains at Living the Good Life. For those with a skewed sense of humor: Mystery Science Theater 3000 makes an appearance at Galaxy Theater tonight.

Step into the past today: the Pony Express re-ride is coming through town. It’s anticipated around 2 p.m. and you can follow their path online HERE. World War II buffs are going to love the Wings of Freedom tour at the Minden Airport; you have until Sunday afternoon to see the planes. Head to Telegraph Square downtown for the first Community Art Night sponsored by Artsy Fartsy Art Gallery and the Charlie B. Gallery.

Here comes Peter Cottontail, hopping down Medical Parkway. The annual Eggstravaganza returns to the Carson Tahoe Medical Center this afternoon with fun for kids of all ages. You’ll find Moses parting the Red Sea on the big screen, as The Ten Commandments makes its way to the Galaxy Theater as part of their Classic Movie Series. City Manager, Nick Marano, is the featured speaker at the monthly ‘Soup’s On’ Luncheon sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce. Enjoy the evening with a Jazz Jam at Sassafras Eclectic Food Joint or karaoke at Crossroads Lounge.

WEDNESDAY:

For Wednesday's Sierra Nevada Forums feature: Examine the history of corporate-financed efforts to sow confusion about scientific research. The filmmakers interview scientists, activists and whistle-blowers who have tried to expose such activities, as well as some of its perpetrators.

As suddenly as it appeared, the snow has melted from the roads, leaving no excuses for not hitting the town. Friday has arrived and with it some great live music. Live it up at Living the Good Life with Monique and Friends. Stereo Galaxy will be getting the party started downtown at Westside Pour House. Or check out Chicken Fried at Mystique. If you’re a performer yourself, then A to Zen’s open mic might be your style. Dancers will want to strut their stuff at the monthly World Dance Open Floor at Comma Coffee. Release your inner rock star with karaoke at Carson Lanes or Whiskey Tavern.

Dayton Intermediate School Theatre Productions presents Movie Night on Friday, Feb. 19, at Dayton Intermediate School in the Multipurpose Room. We will be showing the movie, Minions. Tickets are only $3 or purchase a meal deal for $5. This deal includes movie ticket, pizza, chips, and a drink.

Happy Sunday. There’s still plenty of weekend left. Craft fairs at Carson Lanes and the Carson Colony are sure to have something for that hard to buy for person on your list. Fight the chill with chili at the Carson Bulldog Wrestling Club’s Chili Cook-off at Yogurt Beach. Sing some holiday songs at the Holiday Karaoke Sing-along Party at the Carson City Library. Dayton lights up its tree tonight at ‘Our Park,’ so dress in your ugliest sweater and enjoy some hot chocolate and cookies at their ‘Small Town Christmas’ celebration.

Have you been naughty or nice this year? You’ll have no problem finding Jolly Old St. Nick this weekend. At Debug Computers where, in exchange for a donation to Holiday with a Hero, you can get a photo with the man in red. The Santa Train at the Nevada State Railroad Museum is a good place to grab a candy cane, some hot cocoa, and tell him what you’d like to find under the tree. Photographs with Santa are available at the Carson Mall Wednesday through Sunday. Genoa’s annual Breakfast with Santa has three seatings beginning at 8:30 a.m.

SATURDAY:

Happy Mother’s Day, Carson City! Several family friendly events are occurring around town this weekend. Take a ride on the McKeen Motor Car at the Nevada State Railroad Museum or the Ferris Wheel at RSVP’s Spring Fair and Carnival. A Harmonica and Strings Concert at Empire Elementary School showcases what some of our talented students can do. Get up early and head over to the Carson City Airport if your youngster has any interest in planes: Young Eagles flights are happening today if the weather permits.

Join Bike Habitat and Muscle Powered for the Eighth Annual Tour of Carson City bicycle ride this Sunday, May 3. Signups are at 9:00 AM, ride begins at 9:30 AM. The ride will begin and end at the Bike Habitat, and tour around the perimeter of Carson City for a moderately paced 27-30 mile bike ride.

This is a free event, and lunch will be served for the riders back at the shop after the ride. Donations and memberships are encouraged to support Muscle Powered of Carson City to promote a more bike friendly community.

This National High Five Day I’m throwing out a virtual high five to the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension for putting on this year’s Capital City Farm Days at Fuji Park. 4-H is alive and well in our region, and rightfully so. Agriculture is a huge part of what makes this state great. The program is geared toward school-children, but is open to the public today and tomorrow if you want to learn more about ranching and farming in our region.

Well ladies and gentleman, it is officially that time of the year again. Next week, Jan. 26-31 is going to be filled with activities going on at Carson High School and other locations around Carson City with the annual Winterfest spirit week.

'Tis the Season, Carson City! Holiday cheer is in the wind, and we have plenty of wind right now. This weekend is jam-packed with food and toy drives, concerts, and Santa-sightings, so bundle up and have a fun time enjoying our great city.

The Instrumental Music Department, Bands and Orchestra, is having its annual Winter Holiday Concert on Wednesday, Dec. 10, 7 p.m. at the Carson City Community Center. Donations are welcome. Meanwhile, Carson High School has had a number of their singing Senators recognized for their vocal talents already this year.

As May comes to a close, it’s time to look back on all the fun events we had during Bike Month and thank our volunteers and sponsors who made it all possible!
Tour of Carson City

For the final scheduled event of Bike Month, Muscle Powered and Sassafras will be presenting Bicycle Movie Night on the evening of May 20th. Ride your bike down and enjoy a classic bicycle movie with free popcorn, food and drink specials while you watch the movie, fun movie trivia, swag bags, and a lot of great raffle prizes including gift certificates and bicycle accessories! It’ll be fun for the whole family.

Carson City elected leaders and officials including new city manager-designate Nick Marano lined pedaled the west side of town Monday morning for the annual Carson City "Celebrity" bike ride.

Hosted by Carson City bicycle group Muscle Powered, the spirited group of cyclists dusted off their bikes and shared the road with motorists as part of a month of activities planned through the bicycle advocacy group Muscle Powered.

Muscle Powered, in cooperation with city and state government and local businesses, have an exciting month of activities planned to promote a bicycle friendly community in Carson City.

Community bike rides, commuter challenges, informative bicycle clinics, movies, raffle prizes, parties and more await participants. Bike Month has been celebrated for many years now not only to encourage more bicycling in Carson City, but also to educate cyclists and motorists alike on safety and the rules of the road. Here’s an overview of what’s coming up in May.

Bike Month 2014 starts in just a few days! Muscle Powered, in cooperation with city and state government and local businesses, have a fun month of activities planned to promote a bicycle friendly community in Carson City. Community bike rides, commuter challenges, informative bicycle clinics, movies, raffle prizes, parties and more await participants.

Fans of the iconic film "12 Angry Men" will be in for a special treat tonight as Plan B: Microlounge in Carson City shows the film for free.

Before the film, at 6 p.m., the cast of Proscenium Players "12 Angry Jurors" will make an appearance, in costume and in character. The director of the play, which opens August 16 at Silver State Charter School, will also be on hand to answer questions.
