Lions Club kicks off its annual “White Cane Days” Saturday and Sunday in Carson City to increase awareness of the white cane traffic safety laws, and collect used eyeglasses for distribution to those in need. Local business Wizard of Pawz grooming salon hosts a socially-distanced grand opening on Saturday afternoon, followed by a pool tournament at Bulldog Billiards at 6 p.m. Combined with live music and karaoke, the state capitol will be packed with excitement! Good morning hunters! I've got to tell you, yesterday I thought I had it all figured out and drove up to the spot I thought the medallion would be, only to meet two grumpy mine-tour owners who HATE games and puzzles. Needless to say, I had been wrong about the spot. But I will continue seeking, as should you!

Truckee Meadows Fire reports Monday morning that the Baccarat Fire, which started Sunday night north of Reno, is estimated to be 1,400 acres with no containment and threatens 75 structures.

A transient man was arrested by Carson City deputies Thursday for battery on a peace officer, resisting arrest, and providing false identification to avoid prosecution.

Increased fire activity in northern California and a return of modest west winds may bring a return of haze and smoke to the Carson City, Lake Tahoe and western Nevada region that could linger for the next couple days, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.

UPDATE 12:26 p.m.: She is in custody and unharmed, but very dehydrated. No injuries reported.

UPDATE: As of 12:16 p.m. it appears the woman has surrendered to deputies following a nearly three hours long stand off in the area of Prison Hill. No injuries have been reported. She set the fire arm down, put her hands on her head and knelt on the ground. Her vehicle is disabled.

A standoff in the hills near Prison Hill Tuesday morning is currently underway between Carson City Sheriff’s Office and a young woman who had claimed to have shot her mother, and is threatening to kill herself.

Warmer weather and less smoke may be in store for the Carson City area this week, along with breezy conditions as a ridge of high pressure is forecast to bring sunny skies and light winds heading into the first weekend of October.

Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies were called Sunday morning to a vehicle crash involving a motorcycle and a pickup in the 3900 block of Highway 50 East.

A possible structure fire was reported Thursday morning at 9:30 a.m. in the 2200 block of Poole Way near Carmine and Sherman.

According to dispatch, a woman lit a chair on fire inside of a residence, which then lit the floor on fire. Dispatch advised that an oxygen tank was present.

Glen Lucky was born on Sept. 27, 1952, down in Coronado, Calif. He was like many other boys, cute, smart, happy to arrive, however, he was diagnosed with a birth defect, cerebral palsy, and his parents were advised he might not live to see 15. But Glen did live to see 15. He started riding a bike at 15, and 16 and 17. Glen turns 68 on Sunday.

New Nevada System of Higher Education Chancellor Dr. Melody Rose spent the morning visiting Western Nevada College facilities on Thursday in Carson City. Dr. Rose is touring all of NSHE’s college campuses during her first month as chancellor.

NV Energy said Thursday it is canceling plans to shut off electric power lines Friday as part of a public safety outage management event in Incline Village due to improved weather conditions and an updated forecast.
