The Misfits Theater Group presents the fun Melodrama 'The Christmas Tree Farm' or 'It Doesn't Pay to be Naughty at Christmas' at the Dayton Community Center, 170 Pike Street in downtown Dayton on Friday Dec. 15 and Saturday, Dec 16 at 7 p.m. and again Sunday Dec. 17 at 2 p.m. As always, refreshments are available.

Friday's performance proceeds will be donated to the Dayton Food Pantry. Join the fun in the Misfit's 19th Season of audience participatory melodrama.

Saturday, January 25

Heading into the last weekend of January there’s a mountain of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include a Chinese New Year Celebration at the Nevada State Museum and the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada. The Carson Comedy Club hosts its first Military Appreciation Night on Friday at the Carson Nugget. Carson Valley’s 18th annual Eagles and AG Photo Contest will be underway and live music will keep the Silver State buzzing with excitement. Read on for more information.

The Misfits Theater Group in Dayton is holding auditions for its Spring melodrama “Showdown at Phingerdoo or Bad Day at Dead Frog Flats” on Sunday, January 26 at 6 p.m. at the Dayton Library, 321 Dayton Valley Rd, Dayton. This old-time melodrama directed by Andra Woolman is set in the Wild West and has a cast of eight (8) men and five (5) women. As with all melodramas, good triumphs over evil, love wins out, and laughs abound! Performance dates are April 24, 25, 26 and May 1, 2, 3 at the Odeon Hall in Dayton. We are running out of summer weekends. I know that’s hard to believe right now, but hoodies and everything pumpkin is just beyond the horizon. Grab summer with both hands and go enjoy this beautiful city. The Brewery Arts Center brings Dennis Johnson and the Mississippi Ramblers to the stage for tonight’s free concert. Check out the Railroad Museum for your fill of music and antique motor cars. Car lovers have two shows to choose from today: spectators will be able to enjoy both, but you’ll have to pick one if you want to enter your ride. Keep reading for more summertime fun.

Yeah, it’s hot out there, but it’s the area happenings that are sizzling. The Carson City Fair at Fuji Park offers a plethora of entertainment for all ages including tractor pulls, a carnival, and farm animals. Under the shade of the Mills Park cottonwoods, you’ll have all day to peruse the varied vehicles in the annual Run Whatcha Brung Car Show. The sun will come out tomorrow, but it’s the stars that are coming out tonight for the free Levitt Amp Concert at the Brewery Arts Center.

February is coming to a close, and we’ve got the chance at a nice weekend. Explore a new trail with Muscle Powered as they take on the Fay-Luther Trail south of Genoa. If you’re in a theater kind of mood, catch the Proscenium Players’ production of ‘Love Letters.’ See what the Nevada Artists Association has been up to during their Grand Re-opening and Winter Art Show Reception this afternoon. It’s been a cold week, and today is no exception, but you can have a hot time tonight. Live music, comedy, and karaoke are just some of your nightlife options. It’s family BINGO and Chili night at Carson Middle School: get some grub, maybe win one of the great prizes, and help the CMS Band Program raise funds. Dayton has a BINGO night of its own. Head to Dayton High School to get in on the action. It’s opening night for the Proscenium Players. Their production of ‘Love Letters’ runs for one weekend only, so get your tickets early. Stay safe out there, and have a great weekend.

With Valentine’s Day next week, some people may be in a scramble to find just the right gift for their someone special. Carson City has got you covered. Check out the work of R. Fox tonight during an artist reception this evening at the Artsy Fartsy Art Gallery. The new Espresso Yourself Café inside Brewery Arts Center is filled with local art, and locally made chocolates. Their grand opening is on Saturday, but you’ll find them open now.

Some weekends are pretty cut and dry, just a few things to choose among. This, however, is not one of those weekends. High-flying, death-defying action takes over the Minden Airport as the Aviation Roundup Air Show takes to the skies. Pasta-lovers won’t want to miss the Eldorado Great Italian Festival in downtown Reno. Carson City’s monthly Downtown Wine Walk gets a dose of nostalgia as the Western Airstream Convention sets up shop and welcomes the curious.

When’s the last time you attended a wedding aboard a train? Or has your business ever broken the mold to conduct a rolling meeting? I’m going to suggest that you keep this weekend’s plans flexible. There’s only a chance of rain, but the chance of it showing up at the wrong time is always high. The very early morning is best spent watching the hot air balloons against the Reno skyline, but you’ll probably want a sweater for the pre-dawn chill. Head up the hill to Virginia City this weekend. SATURDAY: Jazz and Beyond Music Festival

Climb aboard the Virginia & Truckee steam train as it ventures into the scenic Carson River Canyon for a special dinner and melodrama from 6 to 8 p.m. this Saturday, August 12.

The featured tellers at this year’s event are Willy Claflin, world music percussion band The Batamba Collective, Mother Lode Storytelling Guild tellers Linda Kennedy and Joan McCammon, and chautauquan Larry Lippmann as “Hank Monk”. The weekend also features early afternoon shows specifically for families and children, an open mic storytelling concert and a storytelling group Carson Valley Memories led by Nancy Raven.

The Virginia & Truckee Railroad begins its ninth season as a major visitor attraction and local’s favorite Memorial Day Weekend, May 27-28, with round trip steam trains plying the 16-mile route between Carson City and Virginia City.

Give mom the gift of quality time this Mother’s Day weekend aboard special train rides on the Virginia & Truckee Railroad. The pre-season round-trip train rides celebrate mom along the relaxing 16-mile journey from Carson City to the Comstock-era town of Virginia City, May 13-14.

The Virginia & Truckee Railroad 2017 season debuts discounted family and group packages for authentic period steam train rides that transport passengers through the silver boom towns of the Wild West.

High stakes Wild West melodrama and action-packed adventure are on the menu Saturday, Aug. 13, Saturday, Sept. 10 and Saturday, Oct. 8 as passengers board V&T Railroad “Train to Danger” dinner tour. Directed by Carla Wilson and written by John Burkhart, “Train to Danger” tells the story of railroad heiresses, the Pullman sisters, as they are stranded in a snowstorm in Hidden Gulch.

Kyle Horvath, Director of Marketing for Carson City, fills us in on experiencing the area by train on the historic V&T Railroad with Candy Duncan, program manager for V&T.

The Virginia & Truckee Railroad is running full steam ahead this summer with more reasons to explore the Silver State’s ultimate Old West steam train ride through historic Comstock country with new railroad adventures designed for Nevada residents and young train enthusiasts.

Lollipop Productions in conjunction with the V&T Railway will hold open auditions on June 21, 2016, for the old time melodrama “Train to Danger” written by John Burkhart.

In “Train to Danger,” railroad heiresses, the Pullman sisters, are stranded in a snowstorm in Hidden Gulch. Handsome engineer, Tom Truetrack is to see to their safety during their trip home.

The 2016 Virginia & Truckee Railroad season chugs full steam ahead starting Memorial Day weekend, May 28-29. Authentic period steam trains ride through the heart of Nevada’s 1860s silver boom towns where legends of the Wild West were born and live on today along the original 16-mile route between Carson City and Virginia City, Nevada.

Mom, long stemmed roses and the Virginia & Truckee Railroad. The annual Mother’s Day weekend rides on the V&T Railroad are set for Saturday and Sunday, May 7-8. The first excursion of the season is also one of the most popular as families spend the day together celebrating mom.

Join us in our new location, at the Brewery Arts Center's Black Box Theater to enjoy Cary Grant and Irene Dunne in this melodrama from 1941.
Trivia and discussion begin at 6:30p, film at 7:00p. General admission $5; Senior/Student $3; Free for members.

Ready, set, GO! Whether you want to watch camels race, or hot air balloons light up the sky, this is a great weekend in Northern Nevada. If cool cars are more your style, join the Freaks of Nature Car Club at a show and shine in the parking lot of Yogurt Beach in North Carson. It’s root, root, root for the home team as the WNC Wildcats play a double header at Harvey Field.

Hold on to your hats, Carson City, summer isn’t ready to quit us just yet. An aviation air show at the Minden Airport, the coin show and fair at the Nevada State Museum, and a fishing derby for the kids at Little Washoe Lake are only the tip of the iceberg. The Pavilion at Mills Park is where you’ll find the annual Carson High Football Boosters Fundraising BBQ. The Quicksilver Dog Agility Trials are always fun to watch, and they’ll be at Fuji Park all weekend. Carson Lanes has family fun indoors and out all day long during their Bowling Blast-off.
