Muscle Powered and Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space are combining efforts for Earth Day weekend, April 21 for a special Trash Mob event held at East Silver Saddle Ranch on Sierra Vista Lane one-half mile south of Pinon Hills Road.

Kyra Gonzales, 11, of Carson City, claimed the top prize of $500 cash at Carson’s Got Talent, the regional talent competition benefiting Meals on Wheels Carson City, last Saturday evening.

Carson City Manager Nick Marano announced Thursday at the Board of Supervisors meeting that he would not renew his contract, which will expire June 2, and has accepted a position in the private sector.

Carson City area high school students were visited Thursday by the national cable and satellite television network C-SPAN and its state-of-the-art motor coach bus.

CARSON CITY — Carson’s Got Talent, an evening extravaganza of regional talent at the Bob Boldrick Theater, April 14 at 6:30 p.m., announced its panel of celebrity judges this week.

National cable and satellite television network C-SPAN is returning to the Nevada state capital this Wednesday and Thursday, April 11-12 to engage the community through interactive demonstrations of its public service resources, a C-SPAN press release said.

Dean Heller, Carson City Mayor Bob Crowell, and other state and local officials at 9 this morning to officially announce a $7.5 million grant that DOT recently awarded Carson City for the South Carson Street Complete Streets project.

Thursday is National Vietnam War Veterans Day. Carson City Manager Nick Marano and Mayor Bob Crowell invited all veterans who work for the City to stop by City Hall for a photo so that they may be recognized and celebrated for their service by all community members.

Hindu prayers will open the meetings of ten city and county councils in Utah between June four to seven, containing verses from world’s oldest existing scripture.

These include Weber County Board of Commissioners (Ogden), Wasatch County Council (Heber City), Juab County Commission (Nephi), Payson City Council, Centerville City Council, Heber City Council, Woods Cross City Council, Salem City Council, West Bountiful City Council and Charleston Town Board.

UPDATE: 9:15AM: Carson City municipal offices are now closed, according to Carson City Deputy Emergency Manager Stacey Belt.
"Due to weather and road conditions, the Carson City Manager and Mayor have closed all local Carson City offices, Friday March 16," she said.
The Clerk Recorders office at 885 East Musser Street will remain open for final day election candidate filings.

John Calvin Coolidge Jr., our 30th President, 1923-1929, was perhaps America’s most under-rated chief executive. He was a man of few words, decisive action and a dry sense of humor.

“Silent Cal” was born on the Fourth of July in 1872 in Vermont, the son of a prominent local farmer, general store owner, postmaster and politician. He was the only president born on Independence Day, although three former presidents died on the Fourth.

On Wednesday, March 14, the Capital City Arts Initiative (CCAI) will present a talk by Carson City’s Arts & Culture Director Mark Salinas.

His illustrated talk, "Choices, Chances, and Changes," is part of CCAI’s ongoing Nevada Neighbors series and will take place at 6 p.m. at the Union restaurant, 302 W. Proctor St in Carson City.

There will be an informal reception for Salinas preceding the event at 5:30 p.m. No tickets needed; the public is cordially invited.

According to Al Fiegehen, chief executive officer of Cubix Corporation in Carson City, the computer industry is about to explode at the same rate it did in the 1980’s when computer technology forever changed the world.

When Charity Dale walked into the Carson City Library on Friday, she was overwhelmed. “It’s so light. It’s so open. It’s set up so much better, it makes more sense,” she said. “Before it was so dingy, and now it’s clean and fresh. It’s so amazing, it gave me goosebumps.”
