The Carson City Senior Center presents the 20th annual Senior Follies this weekend at the Bob Boldrick theater, with shows Friday evening at 7 p.m. and matinee performances Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m.

This year's show ‘Legends Are Forever’ is going to be our biggest and most entertaining to date. Our theme is about legendary icons such as singers, composers, ballets, bands and children's favorites that have given us inspiration to dance.

"We have split our recital into 3 separate shows, hoping to give our audiences an enjoyable experience watching different levels of dancers perform excellent choreography with passion, technique and the Love of Dance,” said Joan Elias Forever Dance’s Artistic Director/Owner.

Planes, trains, and automobiles take over Carson City this weekend. Steampunk ‘N’ Trains at the Nevada Railroad Museum features train rides, fun costumes, food trucks and more. You’ll find two car shows in town – the Party at the Pavilion as part of the Nevada State Fair and the Carson City Downtown Revival Car Show at the Carson Nugget. Proscenium Players, Inc. is holding open auditions for our next production coming this fall: Nightfall With Edgar Allan Poe by Eric Coble. The play centers around Edgar as he works his way through four of his most famous stories, all while trying to convince the audience that he’s not insane.

As this storm system moves in, it makes it difficult for list-makers, such as myself. I cannot predict which of these events will be affected or cancelled because of the snow. The show must go on for the kids of Youth Theater Carson City. ‘The Lion King, Jr.’ is in its final weekend of performances.

Proscenium Players, Inc. (PPI) is now accepting proposals from prospective directors for productions for our 2017-2018 Season until March 1, 2017.

Join us at the Carson City Library for an early movie matinee Thursday, Dec. 15. We're celebrating our 50th anniversary, and so is this classic movie, "The Good, The Bad and the Ugly" starring Clint Eastwood.

Show off your favorite fur baby at Genoa Coffee and Candy’s Howl-O-Ween celebration. Stop by the Nevada State Railroad Museum for the last day of the Harvest Train Festival and Pumpkin Patch. Hold onto your broomstick, this weekend is bound to sweep you up in Halloween fun. First you’ll need a pumpkin. Take the costumed kids to a Trunk or Treat at Advantage Auto Works off Old Hot Springs Road courtesy of the members of Carson Cruise Meet and Greet. Magic is bursting from Under the Sea as the acclaimed Western Nevada Musical Theatre Company (WNMTC) puts the final glittering touches on Disney’s Academy Award-winning “The Little Mermaid.” This Broadway blockbuster will play at the Carson City Community Center weekends, Nov. 4 through 20.

Historic Dayton is the place to be. The Annual Dayton Valley Days and Railroad Days features a chili cook-off, pet parade, pinewood derby race, and much more. It is the quintessential song-and-dance spectacular, 42nd Street. The award-winning Western Nevada Musical Theatre Company presents the musical at the Carson City Community Center, weekends, May 6 through 15.

What a wonderful community we live in. Music, theater, hiking, biking, wining, dining, walking, TED-talking, animal loving, state governing, and so much more are available in our valley. The days are getting longer and there is so much in store for us in the coming weeks and months as we journey into summer. Take a good gander at my list of what’s going on in the Carson City area. It is always arranged chronologically by start time.

SATURDAY:

A Sunday matinee is a perfect family friendly activity. If you find yourself at the Galaxy Theater this afternoon, check out the booth sponsored by NDOT and the Head Injury Association of Northern Nevada. You may walk away with a free bike helmet or be the lucky winner of a bike from Bike Habitat.

The countdown to Turkey Day has begun, and living in Carson City gives us plenty to be thankful for: Beautiful views, our own deer herd, great shops, yummy restaurants, talented actors, artists, and craftsmen, and wonderful people. Get in the spirit of giving with a new tattoo from Hooligan’s Ink to benefit the Austin House. For something less permanent, drop off a turkey at one of the contenders in the Salvation Army’s Battle of the Bars. Giving your time is valuable, too. The Muscle Powered Trash Mob meets once a month to help keep Carson’s trails clean and litter-free.

The holiday season comes to life with the Reno Phil’s annual celebration, Spirit of the Season, Dec. 5 and 6 at the Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts.

It runs Nov. Thursday, Nov. 12 through Saturday, Nov. 14. Doors Open at 6 p.m., Show Begins: 6:30 p.m. Saturday Matinee at 2 p.m.
