Nevada fire agencies awarded more than $1.5 million in Department of Homeland Security grants

Dean Heller announced on Thursday. The funding from the Department of Homeland Security comes amid a devastating fire year for the West and Nevada, where a single fire ripped through the range, burning more than 400,000 acres in July.

Carson City rifle range fire started by target shooting; full containment expected tonight, 218 acres burned
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Mon, 08/20/2018 - 1:21pmUPDATE TUESDAY 9AM: According to Carson City Fire Chief Sean Slamon, investigators determined the Rifle Range fire was started by target shooting. It burned a total of 218 acres. Crews will continue to work throughout today suppressing hot spots and reinforcing containment lines. Full containment is expected by 7 p.m. Tuesday night.
CCFD acknowledges the Nevada Division of Forestry and Bureau of Land Management - Nevada for assisting with the fire and Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District and East Fork Fire Protection District for mutual aid in covering CCFD stations during the fire.

UPDATE 7:27PM: The Rifle Range fire is 50 percent contained with forward progress stopped. Carson City Fire Department will be releasing some fire crews this evening. The cause of the fire is still being investigated.

Carson City Health: Human case of West Nile virus reported in Lyon County

The Disease Control and Prevention Division at CCHHS oversees disease surveillance and investigations in Lyon County and is the agency monitoring the situation. The individual confirmed to have West Nile virus was diagnosed with the less severe form of the illness. The exposure to WNV through mosquito bites occurred out of state.

NV Energy says recent rash of Carson City area power outages not connected, caused by various factors

The Damonte Ranch power outage was caused by a bird. There is still no information about the cause of Wednesday morning's outage.
In recent weeks, power outages and downed lines have consistently popped up more and more throughout Carson City, Lyon County, Reno and Sparks. However, NV Energy said none of the outages are connected.
