Carson City rifle range fire started by target shooting; full containment expected tonight, 218 acres burned
UPDATE TUESDAY 9AM: According to Carson City Fire Chief Sean Slamon, investigators determined the Rifle Range fire was started by target shooting. It burned a total of 218 acres. Crews will continue to work throughout today suppressing hot spots and reinforcing containment lines. Full containment is expected by 7 p.m. Tuesday night.
CCFD acknowledges the Nevada Division of Forestry and Bureau of Land Management - Nevada for assisting with the fire and Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District and East Fork Fire Protection District for mutual aid in covering CCFD stations during the fire.

UPDATE 7:27PM: The Rifle Range fire is 50 percent contained with forward progress stopped. Carson City Fire Department will be releasing some fire crews this evening. The cause of the fire is still being investigated.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No structures were damaged. All firefighter resources remain on scene.

UPDATE 5:28PM: The Rifle Range Fire is estimated at burning 100 acres. Aerial support and ground crews have not reached containment at this time. No structures are threatened. The fire spread is erratic due to strong winds, said Carson City Fire Department Chief Sean Slamon.

UPDATE 4:14PM: The Carson City Rifle Range Fire has been driven by winds, spotting into brush and has burned roughly 100 acres, said Carson City Fire Department Chief Sean Slamon.
One helicopter is on scene, with two small air tankers en route from Winnemucca. There are three hand crews fighting the fire.
No residential structures are threatened at this time and no homes have been evacuated, said Slamon. Evacuations have been along roads and recreation areas into the canyon.
UPDATE 3:06PM: From the Carson City Fire Department: The fire has burned an estimated 10 acres and it is making its way into the canyon. Roads and recreation areas between Carson City and into Lyon County are being evacuated.

UPDATE 2:55PM: Bertagnolli Aggregates is being evacuated up to the mill, according to Carson City Sheriff's Office. Vehicles have been ordered out of the area.

UPDATE 2:45PM: The fire is making its way up Carson River Canyon and the area is being evacuated. All people should stay out of the area. Carson City Fire Department has called for an aerial attack of the fire, which is said to be growing rapidly with flames and a plume of black smoke.

Carson City Fire Department was called Monday afternoon to a brush fire in the area of the rifle range off of Flint Road in east Carson City.
The call came into dispatch at 2:17 p.m. Multiple fire engines are responding. First responders report the fire is on the back side of the covered shelter with a moderate rate of spread. It has burned around 3 acres as of 2:28 p.m.
Smoke is visible from the highway.
The rifle range was ordered closed for the day.
