The Carson City Library will participate in the inaugural nationwide Winter Reading Challenge from Dec. 22, 2017 through Jan. 5, 2018. We challenge you to read (or listen) to books for one hour a day to help us win $10,000. Our goal is for Carson City to read 90,000 minutes over a two-week span, that’s a mere hour a day each.

The Carson City Library is in the running for the National Medal for Museum and Library Service, which “honors outstanding libraries and museums that contribute significantly to the wellbeing of their communities.”

Technology workshops: Spokes Across America to turn wheels at Carson City Library

The weekend also features early afternoon shows specifically for families and children, an open mic storytelling concert and a storytelling group Carson Valley Memories led by Nancy Raven.

Carson City Visitors Bureau only organization in Nevada to receive NEA grant

Carson City Library treats bedbugs found in materials, five books destroyed in isolated incident

Library officials are implementing precautionary procedures after bedbugs were discovered in one patron’s books this week.

“First, we want to assure people there is no cause for concern,” said Sena Loyd, director of the Carson City Library. “The situation was handled properly, and processes are in place to deal with situations that may arise in the future.”

Nevada ‘Talking Books’ collection gives voice to written word

Brett Silver is a voracious reader, and he has been since childhood. He’s also legally blind. “My grandma was a retired school teacher,” he said. “She made sure I got my own kind of library.”

Librarians meet with Nevada lawmakers to petition funding

As the father of five kids, Sen. Mo Denis, D-Las Vegas, relied heavily on the Clark County library system.
“We would take our kids to lap sit at the library and leave with 30 books — for each child,” he recalled. “Our home was full of books. There’s no way we could have afforded that without the library. We also participated in musicals at the library. It’s just an integral part of my family.”

Carson City hosts international librarians visiting Nevada State Library and Archives

A group of six librarians and two simultaneous interpreters from the Republic of Belarus are visiting the Nevada State Library, Archives and Public Records (NSLAPR) Division of the State Department of Administration as a part of an international exchange program funded by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, NSLARP Assistant Administrator Tammy Westergard said.
