Carson City hosts international librarians visiting Nevada State Library and Archives
A group of six librarians and two simultaneous interpreters from the Republic of Belarus are visiting the Nevada State Library, Archives and Public Records (NSLAPR) Division of the State Department of Administration as a part of an international exchange program funded by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, NSLARP Assistant Administrator Tammy Westergard said.
The International Visitor Leadership Program’s (IVLP) visit to the Silver State’s capital is focused on familiarizing Belarusian librarians with the educational, social and economic impact of public libraries in American society.
Belarus is an eastern European country bordered by Russia to the northeast, Ukraine to the south, Poland to the west, and Lithuania and Latvia to the northwest.
The library contingent included the Dean of Faculty Information and Document Communications from the Belarusian Sate University of Culture and Arts; the National Library of Belarus; the Tavlay Central City Library; the Republican Scientific and Technical Library; and the Head of the Foreign Literature Department from the Regional Scientific Library.
Drawing on his 30-plus years of institutional knowledge, NSLAPR Administrator Jeff Kintop — a certified archivist, Nevada historian, and author — NSLAPR Assistant Administrator Tammy Westergard, LSTA Coordinator Sulin Jones and NSLAPR's Talking Books Program librarian Hope Williams showcased the State’s archives and library with a personal walking tour.
