As in previous years, Christmas trees can be placed curbside on your regular trash collection day beginning Jan. 4 or taken to one of the drop-off locations.

Tahoe awarded nearly $9 million for bike and pedestrian projects
Submitted by editor on Fri, 10/23/2015 - 10:44amThe California Transportation Commission announced this week that it will award nearly $9 million in Active Transportation Program grant funding to help complete three major bike and pedestrian projects in the City of South Lake Tahoe and Tahoe City.
Members of the Lake Tahoe Bikeway Partnership applied for the grants. The partnership formed several years ago to secure funding for critical trail segments to improve bicyclist and pedestrian safety and complete the Lake Tahoe Bikeway, a comprehensive multi-use trail network for the Lake Tahoe Region.

This took years of planning, relentless meetings with the Board of Supervisors and working with many different city agencies, City Planner, City Manager and engineers.
During this process there have been meetings with all the businesses and reaching out to the college and our high school to get them involved. We had public meetings where we listened and adapted your concerns to our plan for we understood that to be successful it takes a village.

Of all the water on Earth, only a small amount is available for us to use. Since 97 percent is salt water, there is only three percent fresh water for the world to survive on. Of that, slightly over two percent is stuck in glaciers and icecaps.
Yet, even with such a small percentage of fresh water available, we put 50 percent of our home water into our landscapes, often wasting about 50 percent of that by applying it ineffectively or unnecessarily.

Carson City Public Works picks design firm for downtown Carson Street project
Submitted by editor on Wed, 01/07/2015 - 5:34pmCarson City Public Works Director Darren Schulz announced Wednesday that after reviewing proposals and finalist presentations, a city review and selection committee has selected Lumos & Associates to lead the Downtown Carson Street Urban Design Project.
The committee will enter into contract negotiations for a recommendation to the Board of Supervisors. The Board of Supervisors will then approve, disapprove or modify the contract. The contract is anticipated to begin February 5, 2015.
Pedestrian taken by Care Flight after being struck by pipe in vehicle along Dayton Valley Road
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Mon, 12/15/2014 - 5:26pmA woman was flown to Renown Medical Center Monday afternoon following an accident involving a landscaping vehicle and a pedestrian, a Lyon County sheriff’s sergeant said.
The vehicle was traveling westbound on Dayton Valley Road and apparently had a pipe that was hanging from the side, said Sgt. Dan Lynch. The female pedestrian was walking eastbound. The pipe struck the woman as it drove by, hitting her in the head. The landscaping vehicle didn't stop, said Lynch.

Women to Women celebrates 150th episode with landscape planner Mary Fischer

Mary was the President of "Gardeners Reclaiming our Waysides" (G.R.O.W.) she was instrumental in planning the landscaping and artwork along Carson City's overpasses and coordinating the historic art work along the freeway corridor with a Colorado artist.

At the meeting committee members will discuss and give their recommendations to the Carson City Board of Supervisors regarding the conceptual design of the Refresh Carson downtown plan for Carson Street between William and Fifth streets. The committee will vote to recommend allowing city staff to continue to develop more detailed design elements of the plan.
