‘Grow with Google’ returning to Carson City

Today, Google announced that they will be partnering with the East Las Vegas Library, part of the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District, and the Carson City Library, for day-long digital skills training events as part of Google’s Grow with Google initiative.

Wheeled Food Wednesdays at the BAC

Wheeled Food Wednesday is back! The BAC will be hosting food trucks every Wednesday this summer, starting June 19th and going until September 19th! The trucks will start serving at 5:30pm and go until 8:00pm. There will be a wide variety of food trucks, so everyone will be able to find something they love. There will be kid’s activities—including a bounce house—and performances from different musicians throughout the year.

Navy’s Woodwind Quintet to perform in Carson City at Nevada State Museum

In recognition of Navy Week, the Nevada State Museum in Carson City will be open to the public for free all day on Tuesday, June 19 as its hosts the U.S. Navy Band Southwest Woodwind Quintet in a special performance from 2 to 3 p.m.

Nevada Hindu leader to open Pennsylvania, Rhode Island Senates Houses with Hindu prayers

Pennsylvania and Rhode Island Senates and Houses of Representatives will open their June 19 and 20 sessions respectively in Harrisburg and Providence with Hindu mantras, containing verses from world’s oldest existing scripture.

Reno based Hindu statesman Rajan Zed will deliver the invocations from ancient Sanskrit scriptures before the Senates and Houses of these states. After Sanskrit delivery, he then will read the English interpretation of the prayer. Sanskrit is considered a sacred language in Hinduism and root language of Indo-European languages.

Jury trial: Man guilty of armed robbery, conspiracy for targeting woman at Carson City casino

A Carson City jury convicted a man Tuesday for his role in the June 1, 2015 armed robbery of a Carson City woman after he and an alleged accomplice followed her from a casino to her home, stealing her purse at gunpoint.

Jac Owen, 25, of Carson City was found guilty of robbery with a deadly weapon committed on a person age 60 or older, and conspiracy to commit a robbery. The six-day trial was prosecuted by Carson City Deputy District Attorney Melanie Brantingham in District Court Dept. 2 with Judge James E. Wilson presiding.
