The Pow Wow continues at the Stewart Indian School, and Epic Rides is still downtown. Enjoy an afternoon at the golf course: a free family golf clinic is at Eagle Valley. Head to Heritage Park in Gardnerville for a car show celebrating the Great Race.

Washington Fire south of Markleeville at 94 percent containment Saturday

Washington Fire south of Markleeville 90 percent contained, mop up continues

Mop-up and repairing areas damaged by various suppression activities will continue through the weekend within the fire’s perimeter, according to Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center.
Wednesday update: Washington Fire south of Markleeville 66 percent contained

By Wednesday morning, the lightning-caused fire was 66 percent contained and had burned 17,790 acres, according to Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center.
Washington Fire containment continues to improve, Highway 4 over Ebbetts Pass opens

This comes after a day of progress for firefighters battling the Washington Fire in Alpine County. The Bureau of Land Management said that as of 9 a.m. Sunday firefighters had reached 37 percent containment, with the fire burning 17,697 acres.
Containment improves on wildfire near Markleeville; Monitor, Ebbetts Pass areas closed through weekend
Submitted by editor on Fri, 06/26/2015 - 7:08amGARDNERVILLE, Nev. — Firefighters on the Washington Fire, 3 miles south of Markleeville, California continued to optimize lower wind conditions to increase containment.
Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch reports significant progress was made Thursday towards containing the western flank of the fire south of Markleeville. The fire, named after the Lady Washington Mine near the origination point, has burned 16,490 acres and is now 15 percent contained.
Washington Fire tracked at Lake Tahoe by UNR camera network
Submitted by editor on Thu, 06/25/2015 - 3:07pmA fire-spotting camera network operated by the University of Nevada, Reno is tracking the Washington Fire south of Lake Tahoe with two of its mountaintop cameras. The first wisps of smoke from the fire were seen on the cameras at 3:50 p.m. on Friday, June 19, one hour before the smoke was reported to fire officials.
Containment up to 10 percent in Washington Fire burning near Markleeville
Submitted by editor on Thu, 06/25/2015 - 7:47amGARDNERVILLE, Nev. — UPDATE 7:30 a.m., Thursday: Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch reports firefighters made progress for the second consecutive day Wednesday on the 17,205-acre Washington Fire eight miles south of Markleeville, Calif.
Firefighters upped the containment of the fire to 10 percent on the sixth day of suppression efforts. The primary tactical priority continues to be preventing the fire from reaching Markleeville. The next priorities are to contain the fire in the Wolf Creek and Monitor Pass areas.

The Reno Rodeo has begun, and there are several days to get in on the action. Tonight, Carson City BMX is hosting Race for Life, and anyone with a bmx bike and a helmet can participate in helping them raise funds for a good cause. The annual Powwow kicks off at the Stewart Indian School with Grand Entrance at 7 p.m. Head to Comma Coffee and celebrate eleven years of World Dance Open Floor: just watch or sign up to show your moves.
