A Carson City man with two prior convictions of driving under the influence was arrested on suspicion of a third after a citizen advised authorities they had seen an "extremely intoxicated" man get into a car.

A Carson City man faces felony fraud charges after he was arrested for allegedly attempting to cash counterfeit checks at a casino on Wednesday.

Donald Paul Jackson Jr., 27, is being held in Carson City Jail on $27,500 bail. According the arrest report, officers were called to a casino in the 3800 block of Highway 50 East in reference to a suspicious subject attempting to cash counterfeit checks.

Carson City authorities investigate accident; motorist reportedly drives through fence and hits four cars

UPDATED 3:40PM: Carson City authorities and the Nevada Highway Patrol have responded to an accident in the 3500 block of Highway 50 east that happened at 9:13 this morning where four parked vehicles were hit by a motorist.

The motorist was reportedly in cardiac arrest when police arrived and was transported to Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center, said NHP Trooper Dan Lopez. NHP is investigating as to whether the man, described as elderly, had a medical condition which may have caused the accident.

Karson Kruzers sale to benefit accident victim's family

The Carson City car club, Karson Kruzers, will hold a yard sale on Saturday, April 2nd at 8 a.m., at 4340 Highway 50 East (near Sherman Lane). Proceeds from the sale will go to help the family of Rayna Donoho-King.

Rayna, 21, was killed in a tragic accident Friday, March 18 on Highway 50. Rayna was a loving, talented gal with a smile that lite up a room and a contagious joy for life! At the time of Rayna’s death her family was still trying to deal with the death of her Grandfather, W. Ray Donoho, who was killed eight weeks prior in a freak accident in Redding, Calif.

UPDATE 4:50PM: Carson City woman killed in accident on Highway 50 east of Dayton

A 21-year-old Carson City woman died this morning in a vehicle accident 10 miles east of Dayton on HIghway 50.

The Nevada Highway Patrol reports that at 6:48 a.m., troopers were dispatched to the collision that involved a blue Honda two-door passenger vehicle and a red Ford Ranger pickup truck, said Trooper Michael Edgell. Alcohol may have played a factor in the accident, he said.

V&T Railroad ushers in spring season with special events

The 2011 season for the Virginia & Truckee Railroad is rolling down the track to opening weekend, May 27 through May 29 in Carson City, according to Convention and Visitors Bureau officials.

A Carson City man was arrested and faces multiple felony charges after he admitted to stealing and pawning an iPad and a prized WWF belt from a man with multiple sclerosis whom he lived with.

David J. Catalani, 32, is being held on $55,000 bail. He told authorities he pawned the victim's possessions in order to pay for domestic violence classes.

Carson City woman jailed for allegedly stealing and cashing check from mailbox

A Carson City woman faces a felony charge of obtaining money by false pretenses after she allegedly took a check from a mailbox, blotted out the information, signed her own name, depositing it through an ATM machine and then cashing it out later.

Stephanie Louise Rincon, 36, was arrested Monday for the charge. Bail has been set at $20,000.

According to the arrest report, officers met with the victim, who said he had put four checks in his mailbox to be mailed out for bills and had received late payment fees on the bills he had attempted to pay.

Man arrested after carrying concealed and ready to fire weapons without permit

A Reno truck driver faces weapons and other charges after he was arrested Sunday in Carson City and found to be in illegal possession of a loaded short barrel shotgun and a fully-loaded and ready-to-fire .44 magnum pistol in his waistband.

John Thomas Aston, 67, was arrested in the 2100 block of Highway 50 East at about 9:20 a.m. Sunday after an officer initiated a stop when the plates on his vehicle didn't match those on record.

Silver Springs woman identified as victim in fatal Highway 50 accident east of Dayton

A 52-year-old Lyon County woman who died at the scene of an accident on Highway 50 east of Dayton on Friday night has been identified by the Nevada Highway Patrol.

Carole Marie Ernst of Silver Springs died from injuries in the accident that remains under investigation. Two others remain in stable condition at Renown Medical Center in Reno, a NHP spokesman said.

Ernst was a passenger in the two-vehicle accident, which was reported at 10:51 p.m., about 7 miles east of Dayton, said NHP Trooper Dan Lopez. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the accident, he added.

The drivers of both vehicles were flown by air ambulance to Renown Medical Center in Reno. They are Cindy Ann Leon, 32, from Silver Springs who is listed in stable condition. The second driver, Jessica Lynn Sanchez, is also listed in stable condition.

NHP looks to public after driver leaves the scene of accident on Highway 50 in Lyon County

An single-vehicle accident on Highway 50 this morning in Lyon County provides a good opportunity for the Nevada Highway Patrol to warn motorists to wait for authorities to arrive before leaving the scene.

Troop Dan Lopez reports that NHP is looking for the driver of a yellow Pontiac Aztek who wasn't at the accident site when authorities arrived. The car went down an embankment on Highway 50 east around mile marker 15 about seven miles east of Dayton. The vehicle accident was reported at about 7:15 a.m. Saturday morning.

Carson City man arrested after failing to complete domestic violence classes

A Carson City man was arrested after he allegedly failed to complete domestic violence counseling, a felony violation of his probation.

Officers arrested John Adam Henry, 29, after running his registration through the DMV that generated a hit at around 1 p.m. on Thursday. He was stopped at the corner of Northridge Drive near Southridge Road, according to the arrest report.

According to New River Justice Court records, a no-bail felony warrant for Henry's arrest was issued after he failed to complete court-ordered domestic violence counseling. He was booked without incident.

Proscenium Players offer a menu of mystery this weekend

Proscenium Players rise again with a murder mystery on the menu starting Saturday beginning at 6 p.m. when cast members mingle with the audience to gather clues about the upcoming murder story "Eat, Drink and Be Merry." Some pre-show music will be offered by Sweet Vocal Renditions featuring Sweet Molly McGee. Irish fare dinner begins at 6:30 with the show starting at 7:15 p.m.

Prizes will be given to the firs three audience members who solve mystery.

Dayton Food Pantry at Sutro Elementary School to be held on Jan. 22

On Saturday, Jan. 22 only, the Dayton Food Pantry will operate from Sutro Elementary School at 190 Dayton Village Parkway from noon until 4 p.m.

Sutro Elementary School offered an indoor venue for the pantry on January 22 so that people can come in out of the cold January weather.

Dayton Food Pantry at Community Center on Dec. 16

With the big distribution day for the holidays on Thursday, Dec. 16, the Dayton Food Pantry will operate that day only from the Dayton Community Center at 170 Pike Street from noon to 5 p.m.

With unemployment in Lyon County at nearly 20 percent, donations are especially welcome this holiday season, explained Freida Carbery, director for the Pantry.

On the other days of December, the Food Pantry will be open for emergency food needs as usual, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 4 Enterprise Way and Highway 50 (east of Smith’s Grocery) Monday through Friday.

Midget football Snow Bowl fundraiser

The Carson City Pop Warner Jr. Midget Team recently won the 2010 Snow Bowl and are going on to regionals in Santa Clara, CA Thanksgiving Weekend and then possible on to the national level. The team is currently trying to raise fund to be able to travel to compete at the higher levels. There will be a fundraiser Monday, November 22nd at the Dairy Queen on Highway 50 East in Carson from 6 pm-9pm. Also monetary donations can be made. NHP reports DUI stats over Nevada Day holiday weekend; Sobriety checkpoint set for Saturday in Carson City

The Nevada Highway Patrol reports arresting nine people in Carson City over the three-day holiday weekend, eight of the arrests being for motorists driving under the influence and one was arrested on a warrant.

The figures are from Friday to Sunday. The best news to report is that the Northern Nevada area didn't have a single highway fatality crash this year over the Nevada Day weekend, said NHP Trooper Chuck Allen.

Storm cleanup continues in Carson City

Chainsaws are buzzing around Carson City this morning following Sunday's storm that whipped the area with average wind gusts of 40-plus mph and more than an inch-and-a-half of rain.

The city's public works and road department have been canvassing the town this morning, looking for stray limbs and branches that have covered the roads. Homeowners with chainsaws have been seen hacking up much of the stray branches, which block driveways and straddle fence posts.

Carson City revokes catering license in aftermath of gang-related event

The Carson City Board of Supervisors revoked the catering license of Com Productions LLC, after it was used to provide alcohol at a gang-related party in August.

Sheriff Kenny Furlong made a presentation detailing an Aug. 20 incident where his deputies shut down a party held at 1700 Forrest Way put on by Com Productions' owner Robert Schmitt.

Furlong said that one wall of the warehouse — which is also owned by Schmitt — was decorated with gang graffiti, and that a known gang member had been hired by the owner to guard the back entrance to the building for the party.

Carson City woman faces attempted robbery charge

A Carson CIty woman is being held on $40,000 bail after allegedly trying to steal $50 at knife-point from a 16-year-old.

Sommer Wesselman, 33, was arrested at Saliman and Highway 50 on Tuesday at about 10:30 p.m. The unemployed woman faces a felony charge of attempted robbery with a deadly weapon.

Seven Carson City businesses flagged in alcohol compliance check

Seven local businesses were flagged by the Carson City Sheriff's Office on Saturday during an alcohol to minors compliance check.

The team consisted of two deputies and two underage decoys, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office press statement. The decoys were sent into the businesses using their actual identification and they attempted to purchase alcohol from an employee.

The Carson City Sheriff's Office routinely conducts these checks with grant money it gets from the Nevada Juvenile Programs Justice Office.

Carson City authorities arrest couple in heroin drug deal

A transient couple were arrested on Wednesday and face multiple felony drug charges after allegedly attempting to use a minor in a Aug. 25 heroin deal.

Amanda and Justin Steepe, both 22, face felony charges including conspiracy, sales of a controlled substance, and using a minor as a drug agent. Amanda Steepe also has an outstanding felony warrant for her arrest. Her bail was set at $40,000. Justin Steepe is being held on $20,000 bail.

Carson City authorities make felony warrant, stolen check arrests

A Dayton man was arrested on a failure to appear bench warrant out of Carson City First Judicial Court and faces a felony warrant charge of possession of a schedule 1 controlled substance with intent to sell.

James Montell Dean, 24, was arrested Tuesday in the 1800 block of Highway 50 East after being stopped by a Carson City Sheriff's officer. According to the arrest report, Dean stated he knew he had warrants for his arrest when he was stopped.

The bench warrant was filed March 25 and states that Dean failed to report and provide a drug test.

Word was out today that two local businesses will be closing their doors.

First, there is City Cafe Bakery on South Carson Street. The building they are in was taken over by new owners, and they can't seem to come to an agreement over rent.

V&T ready for the rails with weekend runs and Aug. 19 locals special

The V&T Railroad is back to business as usual with full operations to run as scheduled this weekend, officials said today.
On Sunday one of the railroad's engines derailed. The V&T has other engines available for weekend operations, if needed, including the 90-ton Engine No. 18.

Carson City authorities arrest man after he allegedly threatened to kill his girlfriend

A Silver Springs man faces multiple charges, including felony assault with a deadly weapon, after he allegedly pointed a gun at his girlfriend and threatened to kill her.
Brian David Hannahs, 48, is being held on $28,132 bail. Charges include assault with a deadly weapon, domestic battery, DUI second offense, and carrying a concealed weapon.

Carson City men face multiple drug charges after meth and pills found

Two Carson City men, one who is reportedly a former police officer, face drug charges after methamphetamine and pills were discovered late Thursday night.

John Logan Christopher, 29, faces felony charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine for sale, possession of prescription drugs without a prescription, possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, and possession of drug paraphernalia. His bail has been set at $11,264. Kameron Mariolo, 24, faces a charge of possession of a controlled substance. His bail has been set at $2,500.

Seven Carson City businesses fail sheriff's office alcohol compliance check

An alcohol compliance check in the capital city on Monday led to seven businesses that failed to comply with the law concerning sales, the Carson City Sheriff's Office is reporting.

Those businesses were: Ormsby Club Bar at 600 S. Curry St., Dotty's Casino at 3771 South Carson St., Chevron at 1102 North Carson Street, Rand Convenience Story at 1800 Highway 50 East, AM/PM Arco at 4190 South Carson St., and Casino Fandango at 3800 South Carson St., and Bodines at 5650 South Carson St.
