UNR to award most-ever degrees through four Spring Commencement ceremonies

The University of Nevada, Reno’s 2017 Spring Commencement will confer 2,808 degrees. The commencement exercises will take place over four ceremonies in three days: Thursday, May 18; Friday, May 19 and Saturday, May 20 and will be on the University’s historic Quad, located on the southern part of campus.

Eagle Valley’s Jedi Engineers First LEGO League Team won the Northern Nevada LEGO League Championship and is now headed to the World Championship finals in Houston in April. Mongoose bikes is helping support the Pioneer High School transition program. The transition program at the Carson City high school helps students into post higher education and career paths. Mongoose is providing bikes, helmets, and all the essentials to maintain a bike. Students will learn bike safety and how to complete basic bike maintenance.

Pennington grant to provide many benefits to WNC students pursuing science, medical careers

Nevada Governor Sandoval declares October Careers in Construction Month

Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval issued a proclamation declaring October as Careers in Construction Month. The proclamation was issued, in part, due to the work done by BuildNV, an outreach arm of the Nevada Construction Collaborative to “narrow the skills gap by guiding Nevada’s youth and displaced workers toward training and opportunities that lead to long-term, rewarding careers in construction.”

Special Session: Lawmakers return to Carson City Monday for Raiders effort, education funding

Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval announced Wednesday that he will call the Legislature into Special Session beginning Monday, Oct. 10 at 8 a.m. to take on the potential for a stadium in Las Vegas for the Raiders football franchise.
The proclamation detailing the agenda will be released on Sunday. Sandoval issued the following statement:

In the age of a digital society, Pioneer High School in Carson City is encouraging teachers and students to embrace technology in the classroom. In order to provide students with an opportunity to become digital citizens, each student at Pioneer is provided a Chromebook upon enrollment.
