If the shoe fits, then wear it.

For brothers Jeff and Paul Young of Carson City, becoming professional brewers just seemed to fit like the right pair of sneakers.

Their company, the Shoe Tree Brewing Company, is scheduled to break ground on its roughly 2,000 square-foot brewery and retail space Monday on the Carson Hot Springs Resort property located at 1500 Old Hot Springs Road in Carson City.

In the last two months, Lake Tahoe Brewing Co.'s four locations in Carson City, Truckee, Fernley and Reno closed or never opened. What would've been the region's largest locally-owned beer franchise fizzled down to nothing after a series of legal troubles flattened the brand.

Jellybean hangover, anyone? Monday always arrives too quickly, but luckily it has some good things going for it. The ‘Spring has Sprung’ Art Show opens today at the Nevada Artists Association Gallery at the Brewery Arts Center. Get into the swing of things with the High Sierra Swing Dance Club’s ‘Night Out’ at El Charro Avita. J and M Productions offer over 60 thousand songs to choose from, so karaoke at the Firkin and Fox is always a hit.

Spring has sprung. Days getting longer, flowers blooming, and now Easter weekend is upon us. Egg hunts, brunches, and even a parade are all part of the fun. Take a look at this weekend’s event summary for family fun, live music, and much more.

At 6:30 p.m., West Coast Swing Champion Miguel de Sousa will teach a lesson in intermediate West Coast Swing. Social dance is 7:30-10 p.m. Partners are not required. It is Pi Day, so we celebrate the ratio of the circumference of a circle in relation to its diameter. This year, if we round out the never-ending number to just six digits, we get today’s date: 3.1416. For those with fewer attachments to mathematical constants, it’s still a great reason to enjoy a piece of pie. Check out the selection that Comma Coffee has whipped up for the occasion. Fathers and daughters will want to make note of the Second Annual Father-Daughter Dance at Carson High School. Tickets for the April 8 event are on sale now, just head to Carson High from 2 p.m.-4 p.m.

So much for an early spring, Carson City. Depending on how much snow hits the valley floor, the Monday morning commute could take longer than usual, so please slow down and drive carefully. I wonder if they will be bringing a snow shovel to the Downtown Corridor Construction ground-breaking at 11 a.m.

Forecasters hinted last weekend that a significant change in the weather was coming. That change should arrive beginning late Friday into Saturday with gusty winds and rain around Carson City and snow in the Sierra that may lower to the valley floors by Sunday.

Mondays aren’t always something special, but a day like this only comes once every four years. Happy Leap Day, everyone. Have a leisurely lunch at Comma Coffee while listening to Dennis on the Piano. Toast the day with a mimosa at Ed’s Doghouse. Raise your glass to for a good cause: Suds for Seniors is raising money for the Meals on Wheels Program. A $15 ticket will get you a sample of five beers at the Feisty Goat Pub or at the Firkin and Fox. Might as well stick around the Firkin for karaoke and some yummy grub.

It’s Monday, Carson City, whether you’re ready for it or not. The sunny days ahead are getting longer, and the clear skies tonight should make for a beautiful view of the full moon. Enjoy something beautiful at one of our many art galleries in town: they rotate often, so there is always something new to see. Check out the whole list for all of today’s options.

Love on a Leash at the Carson City Library will give them a chance to practice their reading skills with a non-judgmental furry friend. Celebrate the Asian New Year with crafts and music at the Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada. Take me out to the ball game, take me out to the crowd. Better yet, take me out for some frozen yogurt at Yogurt Beach where you’ll find a fundraiser and walk-in sign-ups for Carson City Little League. Relay for Life is holding a fundraiser, as well. Head to Buffalo Wild Wings and let them know you’re there for Relay. Round out the Valentine’s Day weekend by singing some love songs: karaoke at Firkin and Fox is always a good time.

It may seem like just another Monday, but today kicks off the Year of the Monkey. Apparently it’s considered unlucky, but only if you were born in the year of the Monkey yourself. This is a year when anything can happen. Spend the day enjoying something beautiful. The Nevada Artist Association Gallery at the Brewery Art Center will be changing its exhibit at the end of the week, so go take a last peek at what’s on display.

Thank you everyone for participating in the 6th annual Carson High Safe & Sober 5k Run/Walk. We had a great turn-out with 104 sign-ups and 88 participants. The weather was the best it’s been for the past five years – even after many inches of snow earlier in the week!

The Brewery Arts Center, Carson City’s premiere epicenter for the arts since 1975 will bring to Carson City Winter Wine, Spirits and All That Jazz, an evening of wine, beer and spirit tasting, featuring the very best in art, music and entertainment that the area has to offer happening for the second year all over the campus of the Brewery Arts Center.

You won’t have to rush the kids to school today. It’s a professional development day for the Carson City School District, so make some snowmen, go bowling, or just stay home and watch movies. It’s going to be slick out there, please drive safely. Tonight, head to the Firkin and Fox for dinner and some karaoke. The High Sierra Swing Dance Club is at El Charro Avita this evening, which means there will be plenty of people to boogie with.

• Carson City School District Professional Development Day: No School. Lyon County schools will be on a two hour delay and Douglas County, one hour due to road conditions.

Lake Tahoe Brewing Company owner Michael Candelario announced this week that the downtown Carson City location at the corner of South Carson and West Proctor streets is "temporarily closing."

Candelario sent a letter to his employees earlier this week stating that the brewery had been operating at reduced capacity because of problems with their brewing equipment. He later confirmed to Carson Now that the main problem is with the boiler unit that they are not able to fix.

The Planning Commission approved a special use permit for High Sierra Cultivation, a medical marijuana grower that had previously been granted a permit to operate at a different Carson City location Wednesday night.

Welcome back, Wildcats. The 2016 spring semester begins today at Western Nevada College. While you’re wandering around campus, make sure to check out the new exhibit in the Bristlecone building’s Main Gallery. Relax after your first day of classes with a tasting sampler at the Feisty Goat Pub. ‘Suds for Seniors’ is a fundraiser for Meals on Wheels and lets you try five of the draft beers on tap. Enjoy the Monday Night Music Series at Sierra Place Senior Living on West College Parkway. Sandi ‘Pipes’ Medley will be singing some jazz favorites.

A moderate winter storm moving into the Sierra and western Nevada Friday is expected to bring rain and snow showers to Carson City with the potential for a couple inches of snow in the foothills by Saturday and 1 to 2 feet on the west slope of the Sierra, according to the National Weather Service.

It may be a Monday, but the weekend continues for some of you. Take advantage of the day off school by hitting the ice at Arlington Square. Recycling your Christmas tree (sans decorations, of course) is an easy way to get your carbon footprint headed in the right direction.
