Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of events around the Carson City region. The Dayton Chamber’s 27th annual “Making A Difference” Golf Tournament arrives Friday. Carson City Kiwanis is hosting its seventh annual Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Day on Saturday with several activities for all to enjoy. Heading into the final week of August and the Labor Day weekend around the corner, Monday, August 26 looks to be another especially hot day across the capital city and western Nevada with highs in the mid-90s. Activities around the capital city include a talk about earthquake preparedness with Carson City's fire chief, art showings, a clay club ceramics class at Western Nevada College, West Coast swing dancing at Carson Lanes and more. Enjoy the day.

Continuing Education at Western Nevada College will hold a class in clay. This course is designed for returning ceramics students, but is also open to anyone interested in ceramics. This class will teach you a variety of ceramics techniques and will include demonstrations. Techniques covered include wheel throwing, sculptor, and functional and non-functional patterns.

The Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada, through partnering with Arts for Children of Nevada, came up with a mosaic art program that allowed both youth and teens to create, paint and design their own permanent mural.

Sunny skies are ahead for Carson City and much of western Nevada for Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2018. With events taking shape in time for Friday's Passport to Downtown and Saturday's Nevada Day parade, there's lots of activity brewing this Tuesday including a morning walk and evening hike hosted by Muscle Powered, the annual Carson Tahoe Health Spooktacularl, fundraisers, art showings and more.

Playing in the snow probably isn’t an option for this weekend, but Singing in the Rain sure is. The kids of Youth Theater Carson City present a junior adaptation of the musical favorite this weekend and next. The Experimental Aircraft Association hosts ‘Young Eagle’ flights every few months at the Carson Airport to give kids 8 – 17 a plane ride to remember. Help out the Dayton Food Bank during their ‘Stuff-a-Cop-Car’ food drive at the Smith’s in Dayton; unexpired non-perishables of all kinds are appreciated. Then there's Merrill and Jo Moore, who do both.

The Carson City couple learned to throw clay four years ago through a local studio, and now are ready to pass on what they've learned by opening their own pottery studio inside the Carson Mall.

Carson City Pottery will be holding KIDS classes every Sunday beginning Oct. 25 to Nov. 29, from 10:00AM to 1:00PM. This is the perfect opportunity to be creative for the holidays! Day 1 we will learn how to make a mask for Dia de los Muertos or for Halloween! Day 2, 3, and 4 we will learn how to construct a mug, a box and a rattle sculpture (pictured above). Our final two days will be set aside for glazing and any finishing touches on the projects. Nicole Bommarito will be leading the class and demonstrating construction techniques.

Carson City Pottery invites children ages 10 and up to join local ceramic artist Sarah Reesor for some fun and hands-on wheel throwing classes this fall! They will be learning techniques needed for beginning wheel throwing, trimming on the wheel, and the basics of glazing--while making pieces of art that will be treasured for years to come. This wheel-throwing will run from 4-5:30 pm for 3 weeks on Thursday afternoons from December 3 - December 17 (please note this will be a finishing class only, no new projects). Tuition includes all materials. $90.

Happy Friday, Carson City! We have survived 'HalloweeNevada' Day and now it's time to enjoy the autumn weather, warm drinks, good music, and the craft fair season.

Many people in our area have Facebook accounts, but not everyone, so I am pleased to bring you the event list that is featured on my Facebook page, I love Carson City.

Local artists, young and old are donating handmade bowls for a fund raising event that will be held during the Capital Tree Lighting ceremony on December 5th, 2013.

Restaurants are providing the soup and bread that will fill our Empty Bowls. For a minimum donation of $12, you may select one of the bowls and enjoy a warm winter meal to launch the holiday season. The artisan bowl is yours to keep as a reminder that there are empty bowls in our community. There will also be an art auction at the event!

This four-week intensive for the beginning potter will teach you how to throw using the potter’s wheel. You will also learn trimming and glazing techniques while becoming familiar with the workings of the pottery studio. Completion of this class will allow you to take Open Studio. Tuition includes supplies and tools.
