Carson City couple picked for Peace Corps assignment in Nicaragua
Submitted by editor on Fri, 08/22/2014 - 7:20amA Carson City couple have made a commitment to take on the toughest job they're destined to ever love. Warren and Anita Shaul have been accepted into the Peace Corps and will begin work in Nicaragua this month as volunteers.
Warren Shaul says he was motivated to join the Peace Corps because when he has traveled, he enjoyed experiences where he had the opportunity to stay in one place and build friendships with the people he worked and lived with.
Carson City Sheriff's Office hosts 11th motorcycle competition

Along with the Motors Competition was the Legends of the West Bike and Car Fest. The duo of the events brought mass crowds of locals and even drew competitors from clear across the country.

Pulling out of poverty: Capital City Circles hosts Western Nevada College training workshop
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Fri, 10/18/2013 - 9:51amA national workshop that trains people to assist families living in poverty in becoming self-supporting will be hosted by Capital City Circles Tuesday-Friday, Oct. 22-25 at Western Nevada College in Carson City.
The National Circles Campaign Hands-On Training workshop will include education for coordinators and coaches from around the country. They will meet in small training groups, and there will be a poverty simulation workshop on Wednesday, Oct. 23.

Shasta Cascade Wonderland Association (530-365-7500) (www.shastacascade.com) reports:
Fish are active and conditions are perfect.
The surface temps are averaging 59 degrees, and climbing to 61.5 degrees by midday. Clarity is very good, to 13.5 ft. Still cool enough on the surface to still be holding some nice Kings on the west side. 2 salmon were caught trolling Almanor West up to 2 lbs.
Trolling has been more effective than bait fishing deep holes and should remain that way until surface temps really spike. Like above 65 degrees.

56th annual Carson Nugget Thanksgiving feeds hundreds

Families by the scores began entering the Carson Nugget convention center at 11 a.m. sharp for the traditional free event, which began three days in advance with food preparation. More than 1,000 guests had been anticipated to show for the annual community gathering.

That message was delivered in many ways during a “Military Community Covenant” signing ceremony last week during Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey’s September meeting. Community leaders from throughout Lyon County were on hand to sign a “community covenant” that promises Lyon County communities and State and local groups will work together to increase support to the area’s military families and veterans.
