Capital City Arts Initiative to host reception Wednesday for 'Photo Finished 2020'

The Capital City Arts Initiative announces its exhibition, "Photo Finished 2020" at the Community Development Building the Brick, 108 E Proctor Street, Carson City. Nine students from Carson High School’s Advanced Photography program have work in the exhibit.

South Lake Tahoe ski patroller identified in fatal incident at Heavenly

UPDATE: The man who died Saturday has been identified as 36-year-old Christopher John Nicholson of South Lake Tahoe, Calif. Nicholson was a member of the Heavenly Ski Patrol and had been working that day. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and Washoe County Coroner’s Office is working to identify a cause of death, according to a DCSO news release.

Senator Square: Carson’s got game is the theme of 2020 Winterfest

Winterfest is here, and the theme, Carson's Got Game, is more than just a nice motto, it is a series of multiple physical board games, playground games, and video games. According to CHS physical education teacher and Leadership adviser Ann Britt, “the class color teachers will be playing a game of life-size Hungry Hippo during the assembly Jan. 17, and we will be doing a door decorating competition with judging taking place Jan. 21; the top three winners will receive a gift card to Starbucks.”

Greenhouse Project dinner fundraiser, comedy, live music and more: Carson City region readies for upcoming weekend

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. The Union will host a dining fundraiser for the Greenhouse Project on Friday, and artist Jakota Wass performs at Bella Vita Bistro. The 43rd annual Wild Sheep Show will be held at the Reno-Sparks Convention. Comedian Marc Yaffee headlines the Carson Comedy Club on Saturday with much more in store for the weekend! Carson City, East Fork Firefighters to participate in 'Stairclimb' fundraiser for Leukemia and Lymphoma

The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Firefighter Stairclimb is the world's largest on-air stair climb competition and annual fundraiser held at the tallest building in town, the Columbia Center in Seattle, Washington.

Firefighters from both East Fork Fire District in Douglas County and Carson City are participating in the fundraiser, and will be raising money for the fundraiser until the Stairclimb in March.

Gabe Torres fundraiser set for Jan. 21 at Pizza Factory

There will be a fundraiser for Carson City area locals on Jan. 21 at Pizza Factory. Gabe and Megan Torres need our help. Gabe has recently fallen ill with fungal pneumonia. His transplant medications make it difficult for him to fight everyday viruses let alone a relentless fungal infection. This is a fight they can win but it will be a long battle.

Mosaic Class 101 offered Jan. 26 in Dayton

Senator Square: Fellowship of Christian Athletes thanks Carson City community for support

Not only did the nonprofit organization Fellowship of Christian Athletes open their Christmas tree lot Nov. 24 to raise funds for their organization’s events and outreaches, they also supported other organizations and individuals by giving away 350 Angel Tree Christmas stockings and Christmas trees to Carson City children and families in need, and they also partnered with Sierra Lutheran High School to donate 75 trees to the US Marines at the Warfare Training Center in Coleville, Calif.

Deer hunters save 'King of Carson,' Carson City's famous buck, from tussle with clothesline

Matt Parent of Carson City and Shawn Dixon of Reno have been friends since high school and both have been avid hunters their entire lives. So when Parent called Dixon to ask him to come look for a particular deer in Carson City last weekend, Dixon was more than happy to drive down.

However, this was no ordinary deer hunt, but instead, a deer rescue.
