Carson City Events and Happenings for Saturday, Jan. 18
Happy Saturday Carson City! I hope you’ve all been driving safely on the icy roads, and I also hope you enjoyed the bit of sun we got yesterday! It’ll be another beautiful winter day, and say goodbye to the snow in the next few days because highs will be around 50 degrees for the next week.
We’ve got a ton of great events going on today and tomorrow, so check below to see what’s happening!
Saturday, January 18
— Carson City Library 2020 Winter Reading Challenge (all day). From Jan. 5-18, Winter Reading Challenge participants read a total of 14 hours, with extra raffle tickets earned for each hour of above-and-beyond reading. Prizes are also earned for registration and completion, and participants track all their reading time in a simple app.
— Flying Pig Indoor Flea Market and Craft Fair at the Fuji Park Exhibit (all day). Come on down to the flea market and shop for your long lost treasures! Many vendors to choose from, old and new. Lots of antiques, jewelry, arts, crafts, collectibles and so much more. We are at Fuji park once a month so if you want to be vendor just call us. We are located on Old Clear Creek road in Carson City inside the big metal building across from Costco. Climate controlled and very comfy.
— Wild Sheep Show: Largest convention, mountain hunting convention in Reno. 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center. The Wild Sheep Foundation will host its 43rd annual Convention and Sporting Expo, known as "The Sheep Show,” Jan. 16-19 at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center and the Peppermill Resort Spa & Casino.
— Eddy Street Vintage Market Pop-Up. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 1235 Eddy St. in Gardnerville. Eddy Street Vintage Market started on a whim! Meant to be open for one weekend and done. What happened was nothing short of miraculous. A snowball in the middle of summer. What transpired was an amazing event once per month that combines family, friends and a love of antiques, vintage and repurposed goods.
— Nevada Artists Association New Year's Show. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 449 W. King St. NAA presents its New Year's Show with 124 entries by member artists. Additionally, water colorist, Melanie Walters and potter, Nancy Brownrigg are our Featured Artists and have their exhibits on the back wall of the Gallery. These shows run through February 14. The Gallery is located at 449 W. King Street and is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. everyday except Monday. — Coin press demonstrations at the Nevada State Museum. 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 600 N. Carson St. Every Friday and Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. we hold historic Coin Press No. 1 demonstrations in the 150 year old Carson City Mint building. If they wish, visitors may purchase a planchet (coin blank) in the Museum Store and bring it to the Coin Press No. 1 gallery to have it minted just for them.
— Saturday Beginning Wheel Throwing at Ogres-Holm Pottery. 1 to 4 p.m. at 1215 S. Carson St. The Ogres of Ogres-Holm introduce you to clay in this 6-week open start class, including open studio time, is designed to get you started. It’s a great way to relax on a Saturday afternoon. $175 for 6 weekly sessions or $45 drop ins.
— LEGO Club at the Carson City Library. 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at 900 N. Roop St. Build self-led creations through hands-on learning with LEGO Education materials. Participants 9 and under must be accompanied by a caregiver of at least 13 years of age at all times.
— Republished book honors late Carson City businessman Bob McFadden's passion for Silver State art. 2 to 5 p.m. at Stremmel Gallery, 1400 S. Virginia St. in Reno. A joint book signing and exhibition opening will take place Jan. 18 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Stremmel Gallery to celebrate McFadden’s passion for Nevada art and to honor his vision of creating a comprehensive resource for art collectors and researchers.
— Free fitness and outdoor adventures available for young people living with cancer, MS. 4 to 6:30 p.m. at Mesa Rim Climbing Center, 970 Harvard Way in Reno. First Descents is piloting in 2020 a monthly meetups program in northern Nevada. The program will provide 11 life-changing outdoor and outdoor-related adventures this year free of cost to local young adults impacted by cancer and other serious health conditions.
— Sounds by DJ R-Boogie at Jimmy G's. Jimmy G's Cigar Bar is located at 301 N. Carson St. DJ R-Boogie will be bringing the funk to Jimmy G's in Carson City. It's an event you don't want to miss out on!
Sunday, January 19

— Muscle Powered Sunday morning bike ride. 9 a.m. Meet at Fremont Elementary School in the South parking lot next to the Linear Ditch Trail. All riders must have a bicycle in safe working condition, a helmet, and closed toed shoes.

— Baking Bagels from Scratch at Sierra Chef. 12 to 4 p.m. at 2292 Main St. Suites 3 and 4 in Genoa. Enjoy a delicious fresh baked bagel with a hands-on cooking class at Sierra Chef! The class is $85 per person. Please arrive on time for class and wear the appropriate clothing.
