Nevadans who have been laid off due to the COVID-19 pandemic can be retrained at no cost in high-demand manufacturing careers via a new program made possible through a federal grant from Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act.

Last week the Carson City Library and Google co-hosted an online workshop for the state’s small businesses including the Nevada Small Business Development Center and the Connected Commerce Council for Nevada.

On Thursday, July 30, Google co-hosted an online workshop with the Nevada Small Business Development Center and the Connected Commerce Council for Nevada as part of the tech company’s ‘Grow with Google’ initiative. ‘Grow with Google’ aims to help create economic opportunity in communities across the United States by providing free training, tools, and expertise for people across their country to grow their skills, careers, and businesses.

Google announced Monday that it has launched new programs and commitments to help job seekers who have been impacted by COVID-19.

The Nevada State Archives is providing a free basic preservation workshop on March 12, 2020 from 1:00pm to 4:00pm. The training will cover preserving documents and photos, storage methods for various types of records, as well as information about electronic records. No previous experience is required; this training is open to anyone who might be interested. The training will be held at the Nevada State Library and Archives Building, 100 N. Stewart Street, Carson City.

CARSON CITY — JOIN Inc. was one of five Nevada organizations chosen to receive a $175,000 investment from Google.org for its innovative proposal to create economic opportunity in the community. JOIN Inc. will launch Career Bound NV Success Skills, a training program designed to ensure Northern Nevadans have access to basic technology and employability skills training needed for successful employment.

Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties’ November breakfast meeting includes a discussion and request for input on the Coalition’s updated Comprehensive Community Prevention Plan, plus a free training on Naloxone and harm reduction. The public meeting is on Thursday, November 8, 2018 at 9am at the Silver Springs Community Center, 2945 Fort Churchill Street.

Free training opportunities for the public will be offered this July in Silver Springs, Yerington, Fernley, and Dayton regarding how to reduce risks of accidental overdose using Naloxone treatment resources.

The State Health Insurance Assistance Programs (SHIPs) are a national network of volunteers, staff and partners. They provide free, in depth, one-on-one insurance counseling and assistance to Medicare beneficiaries, their families, friends, and caregivers.

Employers who may be struggling with policies concerning drugs in the workplace after the legalization of recreational and medical marijuana, will benefit from a training Feb. 13 at the Carson City School District Office.

The Nevada Rural Counties Retired Senior Volunteer Program, also known as RSVP, is presenting the REST Companion training in Carson City. Anyone interested in meeting a crucial need by providing respite — or short-term temporary relief — for caregivers in their community can attend the upcoming REST (Respite Education & Support Tools) training course.

The Nevada Department of Veterans Services will be sponsoring two FREE comprehensive training programs to assist those caring for aging veterans, including those living in eldercare communities.

The programs are called "Bravo Zulu: Achieving Excellence in Relationship-Centered Care." They're designed to give care partners of veterans a better understanding of military culture as well as the influence and impact of military service experiences on the healthcare needs of aging veterans.

As the Nevada State Museum prepares to celebrate its 75th Anniversary on October 31, 2016, the Friends of the Nevada State Museum are preparing an introductory class for volunteers and tour guides at the museum and Nevada State Capitol in Carson City.

The U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit will host the sixth annual Native Species Festival on Saturday, May 30, 2015, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Taylor Creek Visitor Center located three miles north of South Lake Tahoe on Highway 89. This free family event is a great way to spend the day outdoors and learn about native species of the Lake Tahoe Basin.

RSVP will hold quarterly training for volunteers on October 24, 2014 from 9:00 am –12:00 pm. The training will be hosted at the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension office 2621 Northgate Lane Ste. 12 in Carson City. RSVP volunteers, persons caring for a loved one 24/7, and other interested parties are encouraged to join us for this free training.

The Business Branch of the Carson City Library at the Business Resource Innovation Center (BRIC) will be a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site again for the upcoming tax season.

Carson City Library’s Business Resource Innovation Center (the BRIC), a member of the Foundation Center network of Cooperating Collections, will host a free training session for managing non-profit organizations. “Nonprofit Sustainability: Building Blocks to Organizational Success” will be held Thursday, April 4, beginning at 3 pm, at the BRIC, 108 E Proctor.

The Business Branch of the Carson City Library at the Business Resource Innovation Center will be a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance site again for the upcoming tax season. The VITA program offers free preparation of federal and state income tax returns to low-to-moderate income families in Northern Nevada who cannot prepare their own return.

Paddlers at Lake Tahoe who enjoy the peace and solitude of skimming over crystal clear waters can now join the Tahoe Keepers stewardship community to protect Lake Tahoe from aquatic invasive species, according to an invasive species multi-agency committee.
