Carson City Jazz & Beyond Festival features free drive-in movie Wednesday, Thursday at BAC

The Mile High Jazz Band Association presents a jazz-related drive-in movie, “High Society,” on Wednesday, August 19, and Thursday, August 20, as part of the 2020 Jazz & Beyond Festival.

It will be shown in the parking lot of the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall, 511 W. King Street, in Carson City. Admission is free. Show time is available when calling for reservations, which are required for each vehicle and can be made by calling 775-883-4154.

The Carson City Jazz and Beyond Music and Art Festival is taking a new direction in response to the coronavirus pandemic. The festival was founded in 2004. This is the first year in which gathering of large crowds at musical events has been restricted due to health concerns.

Days after President Kennedy was assassinated, Frank Sinatra, Jr., just barely an adult, was in the midst of a tour getting his music career off the ground.

On his tour during a snowy Tahoe December, he performed at the Harrah’s Club Lodge in Lake Tahoe.

Little did he know he had a few followers trailing him from city to city, and they weren’t hopeful fans, but instead, hopeful foes.

Joining the RJO is Pat Esters' Gospel Choir, starring vocalists Pat Esters, Lori Johnson, David Wells, and Caitlin Collins. The Reno Youth Jazz Orchestra will open the show at the Reno performances.

The first shows are Dec. 15 at 7:30 p.m. and Dec. 16 at 2 p.m. at the Cargo Concert Hall at Whitney Peak Hotel in Reno.

When Carson City throws a Thanksgiving dinner, the Carson Nugget has always delivered. With 60 years now under its belt, the downtown capital city casino again outdid itself with community service, treating nearly 1,000 residents to a free Thanksgiving meal.

NV 150 Fair events continue all day long Saturday at Fuji Park in Carson City. Parking is available at Casino Fandango, with shuttle bus service to and from the fairgrounds.

Among today's activities, there will be livestock shows, sales and demonstrations, carnival rides and games, fly tying demonstrations, cloggers, a dog show at 4 p.m. Sons of Slide Mountain Band beginning at noon, Youth Theater Carson City performance at 12:30 p.m.

On stage The Mountain Girls (band) at 4:30, Ranch Rodeo at 5 p.m., live music with CW Bayer and Mr. Spoons at 5:30 p.m.
