Ladies Fly Fishing Clinic at Fuji Park April 27
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Fri, 03/22/2019 - 11:50amThe High Sierra Fly Casters and the Carson Fly Fishing Club are joining forces to sponsor a Ladies Day fly fishing clinic starting at 8 AM on April 27 at Fuji Park on Old Clear Creek Road (across from Costco) to introduce newcomers to fly fishing. This one-day event is open to the public, but advance registration is necessary.

The Jazz and Beyond Music Festival makes an appearance downtown with Under the Radar in the Comma Coffee Courtyard, followed by the Mile High Jazz Band in McFadden Square. Head up the short hill to Silver City for a special hands-on Engineering activity for kids. Join local author Cindy Sutherland for this month’s edition of the Brown Bag Lunch Series at the Nevada State Library and Archives. Freshman, and their parents, are welcomed to Carson High School this morning for orientation, an overview of policies, and a tour.

The local library can be your best friend during summer vacation; Carson City celebrated the kick-off to their summer program on Sunday, while the library in Minden will host a party this evening to get the summer events started. The State Library and Archives have started a new lunchtime program. Join them for Archives Appetizer, a monthly speaker program that will cover different topics of Nevada History. Muscle Powered features two guided hikes on Tuesdays.

This weekend I will be at the Lampe Park Kids Fishing Derby in Gardnerville and the Sawmill Pond Kids Fishing Derby in South Lake Tahoe.
Introductory Fly-Fishing Academy
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Mon, 05/21/2018 - 8:50pmThe Carson Fly Fishing Club will conduct a Introductory Fly-Fishing Academy June 15, 6:30 p.m. June 16, all day starting at 9 a.m. at the Ormsby Room, Carson City Sheriff's Office, at 911 E. Musser St., Carson City.
The course will cover equipment, casting, entomology, flies, and knots & leaders.
The casting portion will be late afternoon at Baily Pond on June 16. The purpose of the class is to learn the basic techniques of fly fishing. This will be the eighteenth year that the Carson Fly Fishing Club has presented this class free to the public.

You’ll need a helmet and a trail-ready bike if you’d like to join in. A hike up Goni Road with Muscle Powered will be worth the views and a good work-out. Mile High Jazz Band has teamed up with vocalist Jakki Ford for this month’s performance; you’ll find them tonight at Living the Good Life. If you’d like to learn more about drones, those little flying robots, then tonight’s installment of the Sierra Nevada Forum is for you. They’ll be covering the versatility of drones, and fully expect you to be surprised. Chili’s Restaurant welcomes Mother-son duos for a night of quality time. Super-hero costumes are encouraged, and bring a camera, Darth Vader will be there for pictures.

Fly Tying Academy
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Wed, 03/28/2018 - 8:18pmThe Carson Fly Fishing Club is offering a beginning Fly Tying Academy on April 9, 11, 16, 18, 23, and 25, 2018 at 6:30 PM at the Airport Terminal Building – 2600 College Parkway, Carson City.
The purpose of the class is to learn basic techniques of tying different flies, no experience necessary. The flies for this class will be Wooly Worm, Chamois Nymph, Pheasant Tail Nymph, Little Yellow Stone Fly, Adams and Zonker. This will be the 19th year that the Carson Fly Fishing Club has presented this class free to the public. Class size is limited.
