Carson City man arrested for double-crossing cops, steals money for drug deal

A 24-year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday on multiple felony charges after allegedly agreeing to wear a wire for a drug deal and then fleeing with $850 given to him by law officers in order for him to make the transaction, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

The man’s 29-year-old sister, also faces felony charges after allegedly aiding and assisting in his escape.

Arrests made in connection with shots fired in east Carson City neighborhood

UPDATE 8:30PM: Among those arrested in connection with the Tuesday morning Carson City shooting in the 1400 block of North Edmonds are: Christopher Maddox, 22, believed to be the only alleged shooter, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.

Carson City Sheriff's Office seeks information on 2 robberies in less than 11 hours

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office is investigating two armed robberies that happened within 10 hours apart. These two robberies are not considered to be committed by the same person, but cannot be ruled out as of yet.
Monday late evening, at approximately 8:09 p.m., Carson City sheriff’s deputies responded to Adam and Eve, located at 3220 Highway 50 East for a reported armed robbery.

Carson City arrest log: Woman jailed on three felony counts after foot pursuit with officers

A 27-year-old Carson City woman, wanted on a felony warrant, was arrested early Sunday after giving officers the name of her roommate and then running from them early Sunday morning in the area of William and Rand streets, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Kayla Lynn Olson was caught near Long Street and Wendy Lane at 1:12 a.m. after having jumped over fences in a foot pursuit with deputies, according to the arrest report. The woman was contacted after having crossed William Street with two others.

Carson City Sheriff: Nevada Day weekend sees uptick in alcohol and drug related arrests

Law enforcement and public safety issues associated with Nevada Day in Carson City have been "unusually tasking" this weekend, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong. While the parade itself was calm for the most part, there was a significant uptick in alcohol and drug related arrests after the parade ended and when afternoon turned to evening.

Man jailed on felony hit and run charge after crash injures elderly driver

A 20-year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday on suspicion of felony hit and run causing injuries to a 75-year-old driver, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Christopher Gene Keep was jailed with a $40,000 bail. According to the arrest report, officers were sent to Jeanell Drive to look for a gray Dodge Durango involved in a hit and run where the driver allegedly pulled out in front of another vehicle causing the accident and then fleeing the scene.

A Gardnerville woman was arrested Monday on a felony charge of giving an officer false identification information after she was detained for shoplifting at Walmart, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
Ashlee Nicole Karow, 22, also faces misdemeanor charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, petit larceny and a misdemeanor warrant for failure to appear in a Douglas County court.

Small brush fire at south end of Carson City extinguished, teens seen fleeing the area

A small brush fire was quickly snuffed out late Thursday morning in a field around the 4700 block of South Carson Street, near Snyder and Frontage Road and the Carson City bypass construction area.

Witnesses said juveniles were seen in the area and may have intentionally started fire, reported shortly before 11:30 a.m.

Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies are looking for a white minivan seen leaving the area. Witnesses said two male juveniles in their teens were seen starting the fire and leaving the area in a minivan. The fire was declared extinguished at 11:43 a.m.

Four Carson City deputies on administrative leave following Friday chase, shootout at Sand Mountain

Reno police are now involved in the investigation involving Friday night's chase from Carson City to Sand Mountain Recreation Area in Churchill County in which a possible suspect in a double homicide earlier in Washoe Valley was killed during a shootout with authorities.

Firefighters battle structure fire in Mound House

UPDATE: The fire earlier this morning that destroyed a home in Mound House appears to be out. A fire marshal has been called to investigate. Firefighters are mopping up. More details will be posted as we learn them.

Two Carson City men jailed on multiple felony charges following burglary, vehicle chase

Two men were arrested Monday and face multiple felony charges after they allegedly stole a vehicle and then went to Kohl's where they stole an Xbox and then led Carson City sheriff's deputies on a brief chase.

Jacob Andrew Pacheaco, 27, and Danny Maxfield Jr., 37, were arrested separately, with Maxfield jumping out of a moving vehicle, suffering injuries which required him to go the hospital.

Woman's foot injured in hit and run crash on Como Street

A hit and run accident that resulted in an injury was called into dispatch at 11:48 p.m. Saturday in the 1500 block of Como Street in Carson City.

A 1990s model red Ford Explorer was seen fleeing the area, according to initial reports. The 20-year-old victim, a woman, was said to have an injury to her foot after the SUV ran over it.

She was reported to be conscious and alert and speaking with emergency crews on the scene.

Fernley man jailed after allegedly crashing stolen truck into State Farm insurance office

A 51-year-old man faces two felony charges after allegedly crashing a stolen truck into a State Farm insurance office in Fernley on Tuesday and then attempting to punch a Lyon County Sheriff's Office deputy.

Michael Shenkel of Fernley is being held on $25,500 bail. According to Lyon County Sheriff Sgt. Ryan Powell, deputies were called at 12:52 p.m. to the State Farm Office Building located at 79 Seventh Street for a report that a vehicle had struck the building.

Carson City deputies stop man after he allegedly drives truck into mail boxes

A man was stopped at around noon Thursday on Arrowhead Drive in Carson City after allegedly driving his truck into mailboxes on Sunrise Drive and then fleeing the scene.

Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies detained the man after two reports came into dispatch beginning at 11:47 a.m. of a man in a gray pickup hitting mailboxes as he was leaving the scene.

When deputies caught up with the driver on Arrowhead Drive, the vehicle had a flat tire. The Carson City Fire Department was called to evaluate the man. He was arrested on suspicion of DUI.

Suspect arrested in Carson City burglary and chase

One suspect is in custody today and faces a charge of felony eluding in Monday's residential burglary on Roundup Road in Carson City that resulted in a vehicle chase and search for the suspect, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.

Brandon Peart, 32, of Carson City was booked into jail with bail at $25,000. The resident of the address had reported walking into the home and discovering the burglary in progress. According to the initial report, the suspect threatened the resident with bodily harm before fleeing the area and taking guns with him.

Douglas authorities look for armed liquor store robber who grabbed bottle of booze before fleeing

Douglas County Sheriff's Office investigators are looking for a man who used a handgun to rob a Gardnerville liquor store Thursday night.

The armed robbery was reported at 8:30 p.m., at Lucky Liquor, located in the 1300 block of Highway 395. The suspect, who wore a red bandana, is described as a Hispanic male, 30 to 35 years old, 6 feet tall, 250 pounds, wearing a black jacket with a hood and black shorts, said Sgt. Pat Brooks.

Grass Valley woman jailed on DUI, eluding after chase from Truckee ends near Verdi

A Grass Valley woman was arrested Friday after a chase with the California Highway Patrol from California into Nevada, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

Wendy N. Parish, 23, faces criminal charges of DUI drugs, driving without a valid driver’s license, and attempting to elude a police officer. Bail is $25,350 and she remains in custody as of Saturday afternoon, said NHP Trooper Chuck Allen.

Carson City man arrested after giving false ID, fleeing prior to field sobriety test

A 20-year-old Carson City man was arrested Tuesday, Nov. 26, 4:40 p.m. on suspicion of larceny and being a minor in possession of alcohol.
He was arrested in the 3600 block of North Carson Street at a grocery store where he attempted to steal $92 worth of liquor, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office arrest report. Bail: $594.

Woman attempts to rob Carson City Burger King and nearby 7-Eleven

UPDATE: A woman described as white, heavy set and wearing a black puffy jacket with a hood attempted to rob the 7-Eleven on Carson Street near College Parkway and a few minutes later attempted to rob a nearby Burger King in Carson City on Sunday night. The woman remains at large, confirmed Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.

Bear tranquilized in Gardnerville Ranchos neighborhood; to be released in the Carson Range

A male black bear was tranquilized Friday morning in Gardnerville Ranchos by Nevada Department of Wildlife wardens and will be set free later west of Gardnerville in the Carson Range.

The yearling male was found up a tree at a residence south of the downtown area of Gardnerville. While not typical bear habitat, it does see bears wandering through occasionally.

The 80 to 100 pound bear is of “dispersal age” said NDOW biologist Carl Lackey.

Carson City authorities arrest South Lake Tahoe man for felony assault

A 38-year-old South Lake Tahoe man faces a felony charge of assaulting a police officer and two misdemeanor charges after he was arrested early Sunday following a struggle with Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies in the 4600 block of Snyder Avenue.

Raymond Michael Elben is in the Carson City jail with bail of $11,549. According to the arrest report, officers were dispatched to the area before midnight Saturday for a report of a man on the ground.

Carson City woman with stun gun in her purse jailed on felony drug charges

A 42-year-old Carson City woman was jailed Saturday and faces two felony drug charges and a charge of being a felon in possession of an electronic stun gun.

Patricia Louise Barkley, was arrested at 12:11 p.m. April 20 on East Nye. According to the arrest report, officers stopped a vehicle based on information that the owner faced a warrant for his arrest.

Man jailed for felony parole violation; Two Dayton women arrested following meth sting sale

A 27-year-old Carson City man faces a felony charge of being in violation of parole after he was found Thursday under the influence of drugs at a gas station. He was also allegedly in possession of drug paraphernalia and told a witness, concerned about his well being, that he was "on H" which is street slang for heroin.

Two persons suffered gunshot wounds after a fight broke out in front of a bar early this morning.

According to Carson City Sheriff Kenny Furlong, a bartender at Toads Bar, located near the intersection of Williams and Stewart streets, called in a fight in progress a little after four this morning.

When deputies arrived on the scene, there was a big group of people actively engaged in a fight in front of the bar near a taxi cab. A man later identified by witnesses as Emanuel Moreno, 21, of Carson City, then allegedly pulled out a gun and shot one person in the spine. The victim was later flown by Careflight to Renown Medical Center in Reno.

A deputy returned fire, hitting the shooter in the left hand. He reportedly dropped his gun and scattered with the rest of the fleeing crowd. Furlong said after daybreak they were able to track the suspect's blood trail to two different areas in the neighborhood behind the bar.

Moreno later turned up at Renown, saying he was involved in a fight in Reno. Furlong said Mario will be formally arrested for attempted murder after he gets out of surgery.

Crime Log: Man arrested for stealing cancer patient's medication

Carson City Sheriff's deputies arrested Orion Johnathan Haines, 20, a Carson City resident, at around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday evening at the 1900 block of North Carson Street.

Officers were dispatched to the location to apprehend a fleeing felon. The felon in question was quickly apprehended. Haines refused several times to comply with officers after his friend was arrested, and was discovered to have allegedly stolen medications from a cancer patient that lived next door to him.

Douglas County fugitive found at Carson City motel

UPDATE: From the Douglas County Sheriff's Office: Fleeing felon Victor Mora Jr. was captured Wednesday night, at the Carson City Inn Motel in Carson City. Mora Jr. was captured by Douglas County Investigator Investigator Nadine Chrzanowski after receiving an anonymous tip regarding his whereabouts.
Mora Jr. is currently in custody at the DCSO Minden Jail, booked on an arrest warrant for lewdness with a minor.
Bail is set at $50,000.
Chrzanowski expresses her appreciation for assistance received from the Carson City Sheriff’s Office in assisting in the arrest.

Thank you for the early Christmas present

When I read last month that the Nevada Appeal planned to start charging readers to access their web content, a tune began playing in my head: "It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas..."

Since the first step of their paywall (as we in the industry refer to paid access systems) was erected on Wednesday, traffic for Carson Now shot up 50 percent. I expect that to grow even more when the first free trial period ends and they begin asking readers for their credit cards.

Michael Mathew Cearley, 51, was arrested Tuesday evening near the intersection of F Street and Winnie Lane following a report that he choked his spouse.
